This is a wine where the label speaks its own language. Filo di Seta is adorned with an oil painting by Sandro Chia from the early 1980s – now in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. It shows an androgynous figure leaping backwards into the Grotta Azzurra on Capri: weightless, suspended between sky and water. Below it, Chia's verse: "In strange, dark water – when a white dot shines, when a doll jumps – i fly by her side." Wine, the winemaker tells us, is supposed to be just that: a sensation that overcomes the obvious.

The name comes from a stream. Filo di Seta – silk thread – is the name of the rivulet that flows through the unspoilt woods around the castle and passes by the single vineyard from which this wine is made. 2.5 hectares, at 270 metres, blue-grey Galestro slate, which gives both pressure and minerality. Planted in 1995 with old Sangiovese clones that naturally bear small, concentrated grapes. Fermentation in cement, spontaneous malolactic fermentation, at least 24 months in oak, then bottle ageing. Only 6,500 bottles.

Dark, enticing bouquet: exotic spices, lavender, mint, dried black cherries – cool, precise, with a tension that layers rather than dissolves. The flavour is taut and silky at the same time, with crisp minerality, ripe wild berries and violets in the depths, a finish of extraordinary length and harmony.
