Milo is the only municipality on the entire slopes of Mount Etna whose white wines are permitted to bear the suffix "superiore". This distinction was enshrined in the DOC regulations in 1968 – and reflects the microclimate of this eastern flank: twice the rainfall compared to the north-facing slopes, an easterly aspect towards the Ionian Sea, cooling sea breezes, and volcanic soils composed of ash and Ripiddu lapilli. In the mists of the summer nights that Marco de Grazia describes in his writings on Milo, the Carricante ripens here to a level of precision that it achieves nowhere else on the volcano.

The Contrada Caselle is one of the municipality's eight historic single-vineyard sites – situated at an altitude of 750 to 800 metres, on the eastern slope, on deep volcanic soil. What Marco de Grazia says about Milo – "a wine that is sharp, slender, tart and aristocratic" – applies here in its purest form. The latest addition to the Le Vigne Niche series, the heart of Terre Nere's single-vineyard philosophy. 100% Carricante from old Alberello vines. Short cold maceration, gentle pressing. Fermentation in small French oak barrels, ageing in steel.
