Coming from one of the most historic vineyards in Neive, Albesani is a Barbaresco with a classic character and great precision. The south-western slope with calcareous and clayey soils gives the Nebbiolo here a powerful structure without masking its delicate flavour. Thanks to balanced temperatures and a long growing season, the 2021 vintage produced grapes with optimal phenolic ripeness.
In the glass, it shines a medium garnet red with a ruby-coloured core. The bouquet opens with ripe cherry, dark plum and dried strawberry, accompanied by rose petals, liquorice, tobacco and a fine hint of graphite. Firm yet supple on the palate, with tightly woven, ripe tannins, a clear acid wire and elegant length characterised by minerality. The warmth of the vineyard is balanced by the freshness of the vintage, creating a harmonious overall picture. A Barbaresco that possesses both depth and grace – concentrated but never heavy, with a long ageing potential and the unmistakable signature of this noble cru vineyard. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium garnet red with ruby reflections and a brightening rim. Fine and elegant nose of raspberries and strawberries, some sour cherry and pomegranate as well as a hint of forest floor. Very fresh and juicy on the palate with polished and gripping tannins and a spicy final." Falstaff
"Firm and structured, this wine offers dark, ripe fruit that commands attention while aromas of blue violets lead deeper into the glass. Juicy dark cherries form the core of the palate, while drying blackberries and a hint of plum linger over the firm and tannic palate, lifted by mouthwatering acidity. Elegant and spicy flavours offer a respite from the abundance of fruit on the finish." Wine Enthusiast
"The Barbaresco Albesani 2021 is a super-classic wine that needs time to develop. It has a remarkable structure and the unobtrusive depth typical of Barbaresco. With time in the glass, aromas of herbs, white pepper, autumn leaves and spices emerge. All it needs is time in the bottle." Vinous
"The Massolino 2021 Barbaresco Albesani shows aromas of redcurrants and tart berries. It also has a hint of something metallic with rusty nails or tin cans. The wine shows a fluid personality with some exciting aromatic changes as it progresses. This versatility bodes well for its future development." Wine Advocate
"Bright and fresh with notes of red berries, dried rosehips and asphalt. Medium-bodied. It has a fleshy structure with very fine tannins and bright acidity. Shows tension and focus. Spicy on the finish. Try after 2026." James Suckling
"This powerful red wine has aromas and flavours of cherries, strawberries, roses, earth, tar and undergrowth. The spicy notes emerge as it builds to a long, solid finish. Shows excellent harmony, texture and persistence, with a minty finish." Wine Spectator
