A name steeped in history, which could stand on its own: in 1987, Silvio Jermann produced this Chardonnay for the first time and dedicated it to the U2 album "The Joshua Tree", specifically the song "Where the Streets Have No Name". Originally, the wine was called "Where the Dreams Have No End..." – but over the years the name changed several times until it settled on its current, abbreviated form: "W... Dreams...".
The dots are no coincidence. Jermann deliberately leaves it up to each connoisseur to fill them in for themselves. His own suggestion, with a touch of humour: "Where Dreams can happen." The vines are planted on marl-sandstone soils in Farra d'Isonzo near Gorizia, trained using the Guyot system with up to 7,900 vines per hectare, not far from the heart of the estate in Ruttars, amidst the vineyards of the famous Collio region. Chardonnay makes up 97% of the blend. The wine matures for eleven months in smallLiters French oakLiters – long enough to impart texture without overpowering the fruit. It has Storage potential of eight to ten years.
Bright straw yellow. The bouquet is charming and complex, characterised by rare elegance and sophistication: exotic ripe fruit, melted butter, vanilla and subtle notes of pastry. On the palate, the wine fulfils all the promises of the nose, confirming them and enhancing them with gentle flavours and a fresh, lingering array of nuances. SUPERIORE.DE
"A rich golden yellow with shimmering highlights. Tropical on the nose, reminiscent of banana, ripe pineapple and a hint of turmeric. Very juicy on the palate, stimulating the salivary glands, with a lingering and invigorating finish focused on ripe fruit." Falstaff
"Made with 100% Chardonnay, the Jermann 2023 Where Dreams have no end (in screw cap) shows a slightly reductive approach, hinting at the full manner in which the wine will open in the glass. That aromatic tightness comes through as crushed stone, crisp apple, Williams pear and white melon, while the palate reveals polished length with a touch of softness leading to a silky finish, alongside the characteristic creaminess often found in northeast Italian white wines. Fermentation begins in stainless steel until about 6% alcohol is reached before the wine is transferred to 300-liter barrique, where it ages on the lees with batonnage for 11 months. Fruit is sourced from multiple vineyard sites averaging 30 years of age on sandstone and marl soils rich in mineral elements." Wine Advocate
"Plenty of caramel and honey on the nose and palate, along with biscuits, dried lemons and mangoes. Full-bodied, with a freshness that beautifully frames the wine and lends it structure and energy. A fantastic Chardonnay. The best from this region in a long time." James Suckling
