In 2021, the DOCG Montalcino delivered a vintage of rare transparency. Cooler nights, pronounced temperature fluctuations, slow and even ripening until well into October – conditions that allow the Sangiovese Grosso to show what lies behind the fruit: Minerality, structure, the fine geological layers of a vineyard that has been producing wine since the Middle Ages.

Pieve Santa Restituta vinifies according to this logic: each of the parcels – sugarille, Rennina, Santo Pietro, Castagno, Pian dei Cerri and Torrenieri in the north-east of the appellation – harvested separately, fermented and macerated separately. Only after individual ageing in oak for 24 months is the final blend of the vintage determined through extensive blind tastings. Six months in cement before bottling.

Brilliant ruby red with delicate garnet nuances. Blood orange, dark cherry, raspberry pulp, tobacco, pepper on the nose – clear, precise, with an energy that does not impose itself, but layers. Juicy and taut on the palate at the same time, with grippy, integrated tannins, a lively salinity and a long, mineral final.
