In the heart of the Val d'Arno lies Campo Asciutto – that "dry field" which agronomist Giorgio Perrin described in 1834 as the jewel of this terroir, once praised by Cosimo III de' Medici. It was here that engineer Gastone Bazzocchi planted his vision of a great Sangiovese in 1952 – a dream spanning five hectares, which is now regarded as Petrolo's oldest and finest Sangiovese vineyard. The "C" stands for Classico – the traditional interpretation of this exceptional cru.

Since 2019, the Bòggina C has been produced exclusively as a Riserva, befitting the complexity and ageing potential that this historic vineyard produces. Decades of massal selection have preserved the diversity of the original clones, whilst yield reduction to a maximum of 1.1 kilograms per vine ensures the concentration of all the wine's fine qualities. Following spontaneous vinification with indigenous yeasts in glazed cement vats and long, gentle maceration, the wine matures for 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels – first in 40-hectolitre barrels, then in 7-hectolitre tonneaux.

Time has shaped a Sangiovese of impressive density and depth: dried cherries and blackcurrants on the nose, accompanied by toasted spices, tarry smoke and leather. On the palate, a generous, medium-bodied texture unfolds, with polished tannins and that authentic character which can only arise from the symbiosis between a visionary winemaker and an exceptional terroir. A Sangiovese that unites the past and the future, and a wine that not only warms Lucas's heart but also illustrates the magnificent path the estate has been following for years.
