In 2007, Marco de Grazia discovered a tiny plot in Moganazzi – one of the two vineyards which, together with Guardiola, have always been regarded as the finest terroirs in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. He bought it without hesitation. The problem: just three barriques of wine. Too little for the market. Too good not to be made. De Grazia decided to donate all the bottles to a charity project run by the Meyer Children's Hospital in Florence. He had his daughter Elena design the labels. The first ones were created when she was two years old. For ten years, Moganazzi was a gift to sick children. Then, in 2017, de Grazia managed to buy a neighbouring plot and lease another one. For the first time, Moganazzi appeared as an official Terre Nere cru.

700 to 750 metres, north-facing, Castiglione di Sicilia. Steep terraces with 70 to 80-year-old Alberello vines on deep, soft soil consisting of layers of volcanic ash and pumice. De Grazia describes the vineyard as "possessing a beauty that is reflected in the glass". Radiant. With a dense structure and a luminous character. And his most apt comparison: the understated grace of a Greek sculpture. Temperature-controlled fermentation, 14 months in French barriques, spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Fewer than 4,000 bottles.

An intense ruby red. Complex and floral on the nose – black fruits, rich floral aromas, depth without heaviness. On the palate, it is full-bodied and velvety, with a creamy finish and pleasant spice, leading to a long, radiant final. "The Tenuta delle Terre Nere 2024 Etna Rosso Moganazzi comes from a north-slope vineyard at approximately 750 meters in Castiglione di Sicilia, managed by the estate since 2009. This is a powerhouse, with a broader, bigger mouthfeel and greater fruit weight, yet it remains elegant and beautifully composed. Dark rose, wild plum and sensual dark fruit shape the bouquet, while the palate shows notable power and a more pronounced tannic side. Marco de Grazia explains that roughly 80% of a wine's character is established during the first two weeks of fermentation and maceration. Particular care is required with Moganazzi to prevent its power and tannins from turning rustic. The estate has learned to manage that extraction better each year. In 2025, the pressed wine, or "torchiato", was kept separate so the team could later decide whether to add a small portion, as much as half or none of it.
