Rampante lies high up on the northern slope of Mount Etna, at an altitude of around 1,000 metres – one of the coolest sites in Passopisciaro's portfolio. The vines grow on young, porous lava rock, which is rich in minerals and gives the wine a striking verticality and salinity. Nerello Mascalese shows its most delicate, tautest expression here. The vinification follows the usual house style: spontaneous fermentation, long maceration and approx. 18 months maturation in large, used wooden barrels.

Transparent ruby red in the glass with a light orange rim. The nose is clear and complex: wild cherry, pomegranate, dried herbs, hints of iron and flint. Behind this are floral notes, almost ethereal in their lightness. On the palate, Rampante seems to be drawn from a single line – cool, precise and powerful. The tannins are fine-grained, the acidity lively, the texture silky and taut at the same time. A wine with enormous inner tension, whose energy unfolds not in breadth, but in depth and length. Rampante is a monument to quiet tones – an Etna wine made of light and vibration. Perhaps Passopisciaro's most purist expression, carried by altitude, young volcanic rock and an absolute signature.
