Don Antonio is not only a great and powerful wine, it is also a monument. Dedicated to the father of the Morgante family, this Nero d'Avola embodies the quintessence of the passion with which vines have been cultivated in the hills of Grotte for generations. The grapes come from old vines and the best altitudes of up to 500 metres, where day-night temperature fluctuations, limestone soils and the sea breeze favour a Mediterranean but wonderfully developed profile. After temperature-controlled fermentation, the wine is aged for twelve months in French barriques, followed by a further maturation phase in the bottle.

Deep, dark ruby colour with a black core in the glass. The nose opens warm and classy: black cherry, plum, cedar wood, dried herbs, liquorice, chocolate and a hint of tobacco. Generous on the palate, but not overloaded: Juicy fruit fullness meets precise tannin structure, underpinned by fine acidity and mineral depth. The long, concentrated final reveals balsamic notes and fine roasted flavours – complex, mature, but with potential for years to come. "Intense ruby red colour. Pure fresh red wine nose with lots of dark berry fruit. Grilled herbs, menthol and black cherry, dark fine chocolate and dark baked bread. Concentrated and hauntingflavours. Subtle balsamic notes. Very typical of the variety. Elegant and fruity at the same time on the palate. A very good representative of Sicilian joie de vivre. Clearly perceptible oak with polished tannins. A hint of orange and an enormous freshness make the rather high alcohol content seem less dominant." Vinum

"The 2021 Nero d'Avola Don Antonio unfolds slowly with a minty freshness that sets the stage for notes of dried black cherries, balsamic spices and cedar shavings. Sweet, concentrated yet elegant and balanced, it firms up with a wave of tart forest fruits and a concentration of sour citrus that saturates towards the finish. Firm tannins coat the palate as the 2021 finishes with excellent length and power, leaving a hint of raspberry and clove.
