2006 was the year in which Franco and Roberto Massolino had the courage to venture beyond the borders of Serralunga. Parussi – a vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, one and a half hectares at an altitude of 290 metres, situated on the crest of a hill where the vines face between south-east and south-west. A challenge. For anyone who has spent their whole life studying the calcareous soils of Serralunga must rethink their approach in Castiglione: here there is less limestone, but more clay and magnesium. Richer soils. More vigorous vines. A different terroir – and Nebbiolo, that sensitive grape variety, translates every nuance into sensation.

The result surprised even the brothers themselves. Since 2007, the Parussi has been vinified separately, and it quickly became clear: this is no second Serralunga. This is Castiglione in its purest form – balanced, refined, with that silky texture typical of wines from this village. The vinification process remains the same as for the "Barolo brothers" from Serralunga: long maceration in oak vats at 30 degrees, thirty months in large Slavonian oak barrels, and one year in the bottle. It is only the grapes that tell a different story.

A deep garnet red in the glass. The bouquet is characterised by intense, lingering notes of sweet spices, sandalwood, tobacco and leather, accompanied by a hint of dried herbs. On the palate, it displays remarkable structure and firm tannins that soften with time, leading to a long, spicy finish. A Barolo that clearly demonstrates how the terroir of Castiglione Falletto differs from that of its neighbour, Serralunga. SUPERIORE.DE
