    In the hills between Macerata and Ancona, Bisci's red wines are made from the modest 1.5 hectares of Sangiovese and Merlot that have complemented the portfolio of the legendary Verdicchio specialists since the very beginning. The Villa Castiglioni 2019 combines 80% Sangiovese with 20% Merlot in a sophisticated cuvée that expresses the warm terroir of the Marche region. After manual harvesting, the wine is macerated for 15 days in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature with daily pumping over, followed by twelve months of ageing partly in oak barrels and partly in steel.

    The result is an intense ruby red colour with garnet reflections, exuding aromas of black cherries and redcurrants, underpinned by mineral and vanilla notes. The palate is soft and round, with ripe tannins that give the wine structure and elegance. A warm, enveloping accompaniment to game dishes and braised meat. SUPERIORE.DE

    "Aromas of ripe blackberries, red and black cherries with a slight earthiness in the background introduce the palate, which is characterised by its chalky texture, with vibrant and juicy raspberries, strawberries and cherries as well as some darker, plummy fruit in the background. The wine is slightly astringent but not overpowering; the grip of the tannins complements the dense structure of the fruit. The juicy acidity gives the wine a wonderful succulence on the finish and makes it a really drinkable sip." Decanter

    "The 2019 Rosso Villa Castiglioni opens with a marvellous bouquet of crushed cherries, strawberries, cloves and grated sage. It is silky smooth and savoury to the core, with waves of tart raspberry accompanied by lively acidity. Notes of cedar wood emerge towards the end. A hint of liquorice lingers along with oak spice. The 2019 finishes long and with soft tannins. This pure Sangiovese is a real pleasure." Vinous
