“Nanfrè" Valpolicella DOC 2025
Gianfranco, the vineyard's former owner, was known as Gianfrè – or Nanfrè to his friends – and it is his nickname that gave the wine its name. Corvina and Rondinella, in a ratio of 70 to 30, are grown at Colognola ai Colli and Illasi at an altitude of 200 metres, on medium-heavy clay soil, trained using the Guyot or pergola methods. Harvested by hand into crates, destemmed and gently pressed, the must ferments for eight to ten days with selected yeasts at a controlled temperature, whilst malolactic fermentation takes place naturally alongside this. This is followed by six months in stainless steel, during which the fine lees are stirred every week.

!["Concerto" Lambrusco Reggiano DOC 2025 secco (BIO)]()
“Concerto” Lambrusco Reggiano DOC 2025 secco (BIO)
There is a moment in the history of Lambrusco that changed everything. In 1993, the Medici family decided not to produce their finest wine from a blend of average grapes, but from a single vineyard: Tenuta La Rampata, near Gaida in Reggio Emilia. This was a bold move – for a grape variety that was considered a mass-produced commodity at the time. The Concerto became the world's first single-vineyard Lambrusco. And it proved that this idea was no act of hubris. 100% Lambrusco Salamino, organically grown on clay soils, trained using the 'cordone speronato' method, with yields well below the permitted maximum. Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel, halted at the desired alcohol content, followed by a second fermentation using the Charmat method at the lowest possible temperatures – to preserve every hint of fruit. Officially certified organic since the 2020 harvest.

![Pinot Grigio Alto Adige DOC 2025]()
Pinot Grigio Alto Adige DOC 2025
A Pinot Gris that finds its finest expression in the South Tyrolean Unterland. For this wine, Peter Zemmer selects the finest grapes from vineyards in the valley floor and on the steep slopes around Kurtinig. The unique microclimate, the calcareous gravel soils formed from moraine sediments and the sandy alluvial soils create ideal conditions for this noble Burgundy variety. The ‘Ora’, that warm southerly wind from Lake Garda, ensures perfect aeration of the grapes and guarantees harvesthealthy, fully ripe harvest. Maturation on the fine lees for several months lends the wine complexity and a creamy mouthfeel.

Elisabetta Geppetti is more than just a winemaker – she is the "Signora del Morellino", that dynamic woman who, at the age of just 20, took the reins of the family-owned winery and helped bring the Maremma to international prominence. When she pressed the first Morellino in 1985, she laid the foundations for a success story that continues to this day. This wine is Le Pupille's calling card, both in terms of quantity and quality – a consistent, authentic expression of the terroir between Pereta and Magliano in Toscana.

!["Vigneto Enrico Cialdini" Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro DOC 2025 brut]()
“Vigneto Enrico Cialdini” Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro DOC 2025 brut
The French would call it a "cru". Chiarli simply writes the name of the vineyard on the label: Tenuta Generale Cialdini, around 13 hectares in the pre-Alpine hills of Castelvetro, south of Modena. Loamy soils that give the Grasparossa what it needs: body, colour and tannins. For generations, this is where the Chiarli family has been producing what they consider to be the purest expression of this grape variety. Anyone who knows and loves Sorbara should brace themselves. For the Grasparossa is the exact opposite: dark, full-bodied, firm in tannin, with fruit that is more reminiscent of blackberries and wild berries than strawberries. 36 hours' maceration at a cool temperature, slow "prise de mousse", bottling only once the wine has reached the appropriate level of maturity.

“Minaia” Gavi del Commune di Gavi DOCG 2025
The vineyard overlooks the house. Visitors to the Cantina Bergaglio look out from the courtyard directly onto the Minaia slope – a single hectare on a medium slope, 300 metres above sea level, with red clay soil with an exceptionally high iron content. This soil is the reason why Minaia is a cru: Not because some committee decided it, but because this patch of earth produces something that no other hectare in the appellation can replicate. 100% Cortese, hand-picked, fermentation and ageing in steel on the lees – no wood, no intervention that does not serve the terroir. The Ligurian breezes that blow over the hills from the south slow down the ripening process and maintain the mineral tension that Daniele Cernilli once summarised in five words: "un vero Chablis à l'Italienne." Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso confirm this almost every year.

“Capitel Croce” Vino Bianco 2024
Just 1.5 kilometres separate the vineyards of Capitel Croce and Foscarino – yet geologically, they are worlds apart. Whilst Foscarino is rooted in volcanic rock, Croce sits atop the pure limestone of the Zoppega hill. "Croce like Calcareo," Roberto likes to say as a mnemonic. Here, in the highest-altitude areas of his estate, his perhaps most uncompromising wine has been thriving since 1982: 100% Garganega, aged for eight months in old Allier barriques. What makes this wine so exceptional is not only its provenance, but Roberto's radical approach: just 45 hectolitres per hectare, late selective harvest with up to twelve passes, until only the most perfect berries remain. Fermentation takes place directly in the barrique, allowing the fruit and wood to blend from the very start.

!["Aldaina al Mas" Valdobbiadene Rive di Guia DOCG 2025 extra brut]()
“Aldaina al Mas” Valdobbiadene Rive di Guia DOCG 2025 extra brut
A long time ago, the Madean hill slid down, leaving behind deep, fertile soil in Guia. The name says it all: a farmstead with a large house and stable, built on the landslide. Since 2013, Andreola has been cultivating around six hectares here in a small valley whose slopes face in all directions. At altitudes of between 250 and 350 metres, the vines grow on old marl at the bottom and on sandstone at the top. The winery was founded in 1984 by Nazzareno Pola, who competed in cycle races for around ten years and spent another decade behind the bar before turning his passion into a business at the age of 35. The grapes are harvested by hand; the base wine rests for at least six months in steel tanks, and the second fermentation lasts 30 to 40 days. Here, "Extra Brut" means zero grams of residual sugar.

“Maggiolo” Chianti Classico DOCG 2024 (BIO)
In May, when the iris – known as "giaggiolo" in Tuscan – bathes the vineyards of Lamole in a violet glow, the soul of this wine is revealed. The name Maggiolo was born from the fusion of 'flower' and 'month': a Chianti Classico that captures the sunny generosity of the high-altitude vineyards, situated between 420 and 655 metres, in liquid form. Unlike the purist Duelame, the Maggiolo relies on a blend of 80% Sangiovese with 10% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Following visual selection of the grapes, they are fermented separately in stainless steel. The Sangiovese matures for 18 months in large oak casks, whilst the international varieties are aged in barriques; a marriage of structure and suppleness.

Riesling Trentino DOC 2025
Riesling (Riesing renano, not Riesling italico) is regarded as the soul of Northern Europe – moselle, Rhine, Alsace. The fact that it finds a completely unique voice in the hills of Trentino is down to two men who started out in Faedo in 1975, and two soils that could hardly be more different. In Cembra, Maso Besleri, Località Val Bona, the vines grow on volcanic porphyry – —dark, grainy, rich in rounded pebbles. The slopes have a gradient of up to 50 per cent: heroic in every respect, Guyot training, 6,000 vines per hectare. In Faedo, Località Palai, the soil is the exact opposite: limestone and dolomite of marine origin, sedimentary, light in colour and providing structure.

Chianti Classico DOCG 2023 (BIO)
In 1890, Monica Raspis's great-grandfather bought the Riccieri kiln and turned it into a farm. Her parents, Enzo and Inge – a German woman with a Tuscan accent – restored two old vineyards in 1982. In 2007, Monica, a vet, closed her practice and took over the estate. Six hectares of vines lie opposite the farm; the two plots used for this wine face east, growing on calcareous marl at an altitude of up to 360 metres. The vines are cultivated organically, with grass, clover and barley growing between the rows. The grapes – 98% Sangiovese and 2% Colorino – are harvested by hand and ferment on the skins for 15 days. This is followed by eight months in large Slavonian oak barrels and six to eight months in concrete tanks.

Monte Carbonare is grown on red volcanic iron-rich soils with an abundance of black basalt at their centre. Six hectares of 60–70-year-old vines in cooler locations, which, as the climate warms, are set to rise further to become the crème de la crème of the top vineyards. A richer wine than the younger Classico, but without the same cheeky vitality. Whilst the Classico is an unbeatable everyday wine, the Monte Carbonare is a complex wine that calls for food and a little more contemplation. “Sciala” Vermentino di Gallura Superiore DOCG 2025
"Fruits that bear abundantly" … that is the meaning of the name. Sciala conjures up images of golden grapes in the warm light of the Gallura autumn. Here, millennia-old tradition and modern precision come together to create a Vermentino that is regarded as the defining wine (not only) of Surrau. The grapes come from the estate's finest plots: historic soils with a granite subsoil, perfect drainage, a constant breeze, and the grapes are rigorously selected to capture the full potential of all their components. After only a brief period of skin contact, gentle fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by around six months' ageing on the fine lees, resulting in a balanced and distinct style.

!["Belguardo V" Vermentino Maremma Toscana Superiore DOC 2024]()
“Belguardo V” Vermentino Maremma Toscana Superiore DOC 2024
In 2008, the Mazzei family embarked on an agronomic and oenological research project designed to answer a single question: can Vermentino truly be a great wine in the Maremma? Not merely pleasant or agreeable – but great. Deep, complex and suitable for ageing. The answer came with the 2021 vintage. The former "Codice V" became "Belguardo V" – and with it, the very first Vermentino Superiore Maremma Toscana DOC ever to appear on the market. The "Superiore" stands for a conviction that took 13 years to realise, until the wine had earned that designation.

“Cuvée del Fondatore Graziano Merotto” Prosecco Spumante di Valdobbiadene Superiore Rive di Col San Martino DOCG 2025 brut
In 1973, Graziano Merotto purchased plot 86 in the Rive di Col San Martino – an overgrown patch of hillside still covered in woodland. He cleared it himself, planted Glera and began to shape the vineyard that would one day become his most important. Over fifty years later, this wine bears his name. The Cuvée del Fondatore is made exclusively from that historic plot – 230 metres above sea level, south-facing, clay and sand, with vines over 40 years old. Graziano Merotto's decisions in the cellar are unusual: contact with the must before pressing – a step most producers skip – then the must goes straight into the autoclaves, 60 days of secondary fermentation, followed by a further 180 days of ageing on its own yeasts. Almost nine months from must to bottle – a comparatively very long time for a Prosecco Superiore. 33,000 bottles, 670 magnums, 10 jeroboams.

!["Volpolo di Sapaio" Rosso Bolgheri DOC 2024 (BIO)]()
“Volpolo di Sapaio” Rosso Bolgheri DOC 2024 (BIO)
On the Costa degli Etruschi, where the Maestrale blows in from the Tyrrhenian Sea and the waves crash just ten kilometres away, Massimo Piccin has been realising his dream of the perfect Bordeaux blend since 1999. From the modest farmstead in Castagneto Carducci, under his visionary guidance and with the advice of the renowned OenologistCarlo Ferrini, a 40-hectare vineyard has emerged, which today ranks among Bolgheri's most respected estates. Volpolo embodies the pure essence of this exceptional site between the municipalities of Castagneto Carducci and Bibbona; the name pays homage to the ancient Tuscan grape variety Volpola whilst also expressing the deep roots in the Bolgheri terroir. This certified organic cuvée, made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, thrives on the estate's 27 different soil types – a mosaic of sand, clay, limestone and sea pebbles that owes its mineral richness to the former marshlands. The proximity to the sea provides the vines with the constant ventilation and intense light that allow the Bordeaux varieties to ripen here to unprecedented levels of complexity.

![Petite Arvine Valle d'Aosta DOP 2025]()
Petite Arvine Valle d’Aosta DOP 2025
Italy's smallest wine-growing region does not do things by halves. The Aosta Valley lies nestled amongst the highest peaks of the Alps, traversed by the Dora Baltea, characterised by moraine soils left behind by glaciers, and by a climate that demands everything from the vines: short summers, long winters, and extreme temperature variations between day and night. Winegrowing here is not for the faint-hearted.

![Bolgheri Rosso DOC 2023 (BIO)]()
Bolgheri Rosso DOC 2023 (BIO)
The cellar at Tenuta Meraviglia is situated in a former quarry. This is not a metaphor, but an architectural choice: the architectural practice Studio Tori has created a winery here that is carved into the rock, thereby restoring the landscape rather than detracting from it. Form follows function follows conviction. This philosophy is carried through into the vineyard: 34 hectares in Bolgheri, planted almost exclusively with Cabernet Franc, on volcanic soils.

!["Biancosesto" Friuli Colli Orientali DOC 2024]()
“Biancosesto” Friuli Colli Orientali DOC 2024
For two decades, the white indigenous cuvée Biancosesto has been synonymous with one of the most original and stylistically distinctive interpretations of the Friulian white wine tradition – a poetic blend of Friulano and Ribolla Gialla, sourced from old vineyards around the historic village of Sesto al Reghena. The calcareous marl soils (Ponca) and the cool microclimate of the Colli Orientali ensure that this classic white wine displays complexity and finesse year after year.

!["Mozia" Grillo Sicilia DOC 2025]()
“Mozia” Grillo Sicilia DOC 2025
The small, museum-like island of Mozia in the Marsala lagoon is a production site of unparalleled uniqueness. It is a marine ecosystem that has always been linked to the vineyard. The English, who arrived in Marsala at the beginning of the 19th century and recognised the great potential there, initiated the first planting. The vines are cultivated using the Gobelet system, which is close to nature, with natural irrigation. The grapes are harvested in crates, transported to the mainland in flat-bottomed boats and then taken to the Regaleali winery in air-conditioned lorries to ensure their aromatic integrity is preserved.

Forty editions of Italian wine history
When Gambero Rosso first appeared on 16 December 1986 as an eight-page supplement to the newspaper Il Manifesto, few could have foreseen the influence it would come to have on Italy's food and wine culture. Over four decades, the journalistic project developed into an institution for wine, gastronomy and Italian culinary culture – with a magazine, guides, events, an academy and an international presence.
Vini d'Italia has accompanied this development since 1987. The 2027 edition therefore carries a special number: it is the 40th edition of the wine guide and appears in Gambero Rosso's anniversary year. Forty years in which the Italian wine world itself has changed fundamentally. Regions and grape varieties once scarcely known beyond their local areas now feature on wine lists around the world. Historic appellations have repositioned themselves, almost forgotten varieties have been rediscovered, and a new generation of winemakers has joined the country's great established names.
This remains one of the strengths of Vini d'Italia: the guide does not regard Italian wine as a static ranking, but as a snapshot of a wine landscape that is constantly evolving.
Tre Bicchieri – three glasses everyone knows
At its heart is a rating system that is as simple as it is famous: one, two or three glasses. "Tre Bicchieri" mark the highest level and have long ranked among the best-known awards in Italian wine.
What ultimately appears as a simple symbol, however, is the result of an elaborate multi-stage process. Around 60 tasters travel through Italy's wine regions each year. The wines are tasted blind and in groups rather than by individual critics. The panels receive only information about the type of wine and the vintage; the producer and label remain concealed during the evaluation.
The wine is assessed as a whole: typicity and expression of origin are considered alongside complexity, harmony, integrity, ageing potential, persistence and drinking pleasure. Only the most convincing wines progress to the final tasting rounds in Rome, where different tasters once again make their decisions collectively. It is only there that the final decision on the coveted Tre Bicchieri is made.
This combination of blind tasting, several panels and multiple selection stages helps explain why the three glasses have achieved such a high level of recognition in the Italian wine world.
A guide that offers far more than ratings
Vini d'Italia is far more than a collection of award-winning bottles. The guide profiles wineries, provides information on vineyard holdings and production volumes, describes cultivation methods and places producers and wines within their respective regions. Year after year, this creates a comprehensive panorama of the Italian wine world.
The scale the project has now reached was already evident in the 2026 edition: more than 24,000 wines from 2,605 wineries were included, with 508 wines receiving the highest award. The final figures for the 2027 anniversary edition have not yet been confirmed – which is precisely why the most exciting phase begins weeks before the official presentation.
2027: an anniversary edition looking ahead
Gambero Rosso is explicitly using its 40th anniversary not only to look back. The national preview of the new edition on 1 October in Asti turned the spotlight on young producers, generational change and the development of new and rediscovered wine origins.
The first regional results already published also demonstrate just how broad the spectrum has become. In Veneto, the focus has long extended beyond Amarone and Prosecco to include distinctive white wines and native grape varieties. From Sicily, the tasters report an increasingly strong white wine scene, while regions such as Calabria are developing increasingly distinctive profiles based on locally rooted grape varieties and a clear sense of origin.
These are not short-lived fashions, but part of a development Gambero Rosso has been documenting for decades: away from a small number of internationally familiar names and towards an increasingly differentiated map of regions, subzones, grape varieties and individual winemaking signatures.
Tre Bicchieri 2027 – the first winners are here
The official presentation of Vini d'Italia 2027 will take place in Rome on 25 October 2026 as part of the major celebrations marking Gambero Rosso's 40th anniversary. The new edition and all of its award winners will be presented in full on that occasion.
But the journey of discovery begins well before then. As every year, Gambero Rosso is revealing the Tre Bicchieri winners gradually, region by region. Our own selection is therefore growing continuously as well.
Among the first award-winning wines of the 40th edition are major names as well as exciting new discoveries. Many of these wines are already available to discover and order at Superiore.de.
We will continue to update this page as further results are announced. It is therefore well worth checking back regularly – because, step by step, the full picture of Gambero Rosso 2027 is taking shape here ahead of the official presentation of the anniversary edition. SUPERIORE.DE
