    The cellar at Tenuta Meraviglia is situated in a former quarry. This is not a metaphor, but an architectural choice: the architectural practice Studio Tori has created a winery here that is carved into the rock, thereby restoring the landscape rather than detracting from it. Form follows function follows conviction. This philosophy is carried through into the vineyard: 34 hectares in Bolgheri, planted almost exclusively with Cabernet Franc, on volcanic soils.

    In an appellation that owes its reputation to Cabernet Sauvignon and is situated on alluvial sand layers, both choices are unconventional. The estate, part of the Argentine-Italian Bulgheroni Family Vineyards, has made this its hallmark: Cabernet Franc grown on volcanic soil as a pure expression of the terroir. The winemaking process follows a philosophy of minimal intervention. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in raw concrete vats, for around 13 days at a maximum of 28°C, with gentle pumping over. This is followed by 12 months in large, untoasted French oak barrels, then 3 months in bottle.

    An intense, brilliant ruby red with violet hues. The bouquet offers notes of redcurrant, wild blackberry, cherry and raspberry, alongside hints of tobacco, liquorice and undergrowth.
