Gianfranco, the vineyard's former owner, was known as Gianfrè – or Nanfrè to his friends – and it is his nickname that gave the wine its name. Corvina and Rondinella, in a ratio of 70 to 30, are grown at Colognola ai Colli and Illasi at an altitude of 200 metres, on medium-heavy clay soil, trained using the Guyot or pergola methods. Harvested by hand into crates, destemmed and gently pressed, the must ferments for eight to ten days with selected yeasts at a controlled temperature, whilst malolactic fermentation takes place naturally alongside this. This is followed by six months in stainless steel, during which the fine lees are stirred every week.

Ruby red with purple highlights. On the nose, fresh cherry and raspberry, rose and violet, along with liquorice and a hint of white mint. On the palate, it is soft, fresh and juicy, with moderate tannins, finishing with notes of graphite and white pepper. A wine named after a friend needn't pretend to be anything it isn't.
