In the early 1990s, Vittorio Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi joined forces, thereby opening a new chapter in the history of Tuscan wine. Since 2004, sole management has rested with Lamberto Frescobaldi, who has consistently carried forward this vision ever since. Alongside Luce, the estate's renowned flagship wine, the Tenuta has since also devoted itself to Brunello itself – the wine produced in the south-western quadrant of Montalcino from a single, tiny plot known as Madonnino. Of the estate's 92 hectares, only eleven are officially registered in the Albo del Brunello di Montalcino, and it is precisely here, on Galestro soil with ideal exposure, that the Sangiovese finds that balance of structure and elegance for which this grape variety is famous.

Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks, using the grapes' own yeasts, at 28°C for around ten to twelve days, with a total of four weeks' contact with the must, followed by malolactic fermentation. Then comes the real test of patience: at least 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels, mostly second-hand, with only a small proportion new – entirely in keeping with the estate’s belief that waiting is an art in itself.

The bouquet offers ripe red fruit, cocoa and spices, underpinned by balsamic and slightly smoky notes. On the palate, it is juicy and full-bodied, with richly structured tannins that are well integrated with the fruit; the finish is warm and long, with balsamic notes reappearing and a lingering hint of liquorice and pepper.
