In 2020, too, the Consorzio del Vino Brunello officially ranks among the denomination's rare five-star vintages – a warm, promising season without the climatic extremes that characterised other years. At Poggio Antico, this regional excellence is combined with a unique, two-fold turning point: it was the estate's very first certified organic harvest, and at the same time a year that demanded everything from the vineyard. A late spring frost reduced the harvest by around forty per cent, just as the new ownership team led by Marcel Van Poecke was fully implementing their vision of plot-specific, organic cultivation for the first time. What nature took from this vintage in terms of quantity, it gave back in density.

In keeping with the estate's philosophy, the Riserva was crafted from those few plots which, despite frost damage, retained exceptional concentration and a firm tannin structure – selected not for their terroir identity, but for the sheer potential of the salvaged fruit, harvested on the estate's high plateaus at an altitude of nearly 500 metres. A vintage in which scarcity and quality coincided in a rare way: an objectively great wine year coincided with a drastically reduced harvest, and the result embodies both truths.

A deep, dense ruby red with garnet-red highlights at the rim. The bouquet offers ripe cherry and wild forest fruits, interwoven with leather, roasted coffee and subtle spice, underpinned by a mineral depth that speaks of the concentration achieved through a strictly selected yield. Velvety and concentrated on the palate, with firm yet supple tannins, supported by lively acidity, and a long, powerful finish – a rare wine that brings the contradictions of its own vintage to life with every sip.
