26 generations, since 1385 – no other winery in the wine world can boast such an uninterrupted history. And yet the Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva label is not a museum, but a living commitment: since the 2011 vintage, exclusively from the vineyards of Tenuta Tignanello, the estate between the Greve and Pesa river valleys that has shaped the Tuscan wine history of the 20th century more than any other part of Chianti Classico. 319 hectares, of which 165 hectares are planted with vines – predominantly Sangiovese, supplemented by small proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

2023 began with a cool, dry winter and a rainy phase until mid-June. The summer was hot and dry, with no extreme heat events – a constellation that enabled an optimal balance between vegetative growth and grape ripening. Around 10 days of maceration with gentle remontages and délestages for extraction without loss of elegance. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation, then around one year in French and Hungarian oak barriques, followed by a further 12 months in the bottle.

Bright ruby red colour. Amarena cherries, red forest berries, raspberry jelly, broom and violets on the nose – rounded off with ginger, cocoa, vanilla biscuits and cedar. Impressive balance on the palate between a silky texture and a spicy final – the tannins are supple and densely woven, the finish is long and characterised by chocolate and fine icing sugar.
