    26 generations, since 1385 – no other estate in the world of wine can boast such a long, unbroken history. And yet the Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva label is not a museum piece, but a living testament: since the 2011 vintage, made exclusively from the vineyards of Tenuta Tignanello, the estate situated between the Greve and Pesa river valleys, which has shaped 20th-century Tuscan wine history more than any other patch of land in Chianti Classico. 319 hectares, of which 165 hectares are under vine – predominantly Sangiovese, complemented by small proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

    2023 began with a cool, dry winter followed by a period of heavy rainfall until mid-June. The summer was hot and dry, without any extreme heatwaves – a combination that allowed for an optimal balance between vegetative growth and grape ripening. Around 10 days' contact with the must, with gentle pumping-over and délestage to ensure extraction without compromising elegance. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation, followed by around a year in French and Hungarian oak barriques, and a further 12 months in the bottle.

    A brilliant ruby red. On the nose, Amarena cherries, red wild berries, raspberry jelly, broom and violets – rounded off by ginger, cocoa, vanilla biscuits and cedar. On the palate, it displays an impressive balance between a silky texture and final spicy final – the tannins are supple and intricately woven, whilst the finish is long and characterised by chocolate and a hint of icing sugar.
