Rubatsch is a vineyard in Terlan at 250 metres, on a south-western slope with sandy soil on weathered porphyry rock. Two thirds of the Lagrein vines for this wine are rooted here, while the remaining third comes from the Seehof vineyard in Caldaro, where the soil is loamier and heavier. Two soils, two characters, one indigenous grape variety that belongs to South Tyrol like the Dolomites belong to the horizon.

Almost opaque purple-violet colour in the glass. Intense blackberries, elderberries, sour cherries, plus a hint of vanilla and herbal notes of rosemary, thyme and ivy. Underpinned by peaty notes and hints of fine dark chocolate. Pure intensity with a fresh, youthful flavour. On the palate, dense, extract-rich fullness that nevertheless remains supple and spicy. The tannins are soft, dense and fine-grained – velvety structure instead of rustic power. Fresh and youthful tannins are paired with dark, juicy fruit. Salty minerality, spice and dark berry flavours interweave to create a wine that is already beguiling and yet has years ahead of it. SUPERIORE.DE
