In 1991, Alois Lageder succeeded in acquiring Casòn Hirschprunn, a historic estate that was mentioned in documents as early as the 13th century and today forms the spiritual heart of Lageder's biodynamic philosophy. Here, in the Renaissance palazzo in the middle of Magreid, where over 30 hectares of vineyards between 230 and 360 metres adorn the gentle slopes of the Margreider Schuttkegel, a revolution began in 1995: the first biodynamic experiments on Italian soil, which made the winery one of the pioneers of this holistic form of cultivation. "Tasting the unpredictable" – is how Alois Lageder himself defines the nature of this extraordinary white wine, which epitomises the joy of experimentation and innovative strength of the estate like no other.

When the first news of climate change emerged, Alois began to cultivate new, resistant grape varieties that could cope with the changed conditions. The Casòn Bianco was born from this visionary determination: a harmonious marriage of Viognier and Petit Manseng, two varieties that bring their Mediterranean origins to the Alpine coolness of South Tyrol. The sandy, stony soils with a high proportion of dolomitic limestone give the 20 to 60-year-old vines the minerality that gives the wine its unmistakable character. Vinification follows the biodynamic Demeter philosophy in its purest form: spontaneous fermentation in small and large wooden barrels, eleven months of ageing on the fine lees, followed by one year of bottle ageing.

The result is a revelation in gold: intensely aromatic and fruity, with a symphony of candied fruit, orange and vanilla, interwoven with exotic spices and fine roasted flavours. Powerful and savoury on the palate, with a lively freshness and a structure that distinguishes the 2020 vintage as one of the great Casòn vintages.
