    The winery, founded in Cerè di Negrar in the 1920s, developed its legendary style under Giuseppe "Bepi" Quintarelli from the 1950s onwards. To this day, there are hardly any directions to the estate, nor does it have its own website – as if the family wished to preserve an intimate, almost mystical atmosphere. "Tre Terre" was once a name that Giuseppe Quintarelli used in the 1980s for small batches of Recioto. With this Amarone, the name takes on a new meaning: a deliberate stylistic project by the family, an Amarone entirely different from what one would expect from this estate. Only 1,381 numbered bottles were produced – one of the rarest releases ever to come from Negrar.

    The grapes come from three prestigious municipalities – Negrar, Marano and Sant'Ambrogio – each with its own terroir. Of particular note is the higher proportion from the Conca d'Oro vineyard in Sant'Ambrogio: the altitude, aspect and age of the vines lend the wine from this site a dryness and tannin structure that characterise the rest of the blend. Corvina Veronese, Rondinella, Croatina, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon come together to form a profile that is deliberately broader in scope than that of the estate's classic Amarone. The grapes are dried using the traditional appassimento method for several months before fermentation begins; ageing takes place in oak barrels over an extended period of eight years – one year longer than for the standard Amarone.

    The result is an Amarone that is more reminiscent of an aristocratic Barolo than of the powerful sweetness typically associated with the category: deliberately drier, with more pronounced tannins, more accentuated spice and a piercing acidity. The bouquet features cherries preserved in spirit, liquorice, mint and a note of black pepper characteristic of these three municipalities. On the palate, spicy, salty tannins of great persistence, enveloping and deep, with a surprising minerality and clarity that one would hardly expect from an Amarone. SUPERIORE.DE
