The "heart" of Trinoro – the wine that most perfectly embodied Andrea Franchetti's vision. No fixed recipe, no predetermined formula, just the essence of the vintage: the best plots, the ripest grapes, the most expressive terroir. A cuvée that reinvents itself year after year, always dominated by Cabernet Franc and Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The 2022 vintage was characterised by drought and heat, but meticulous foliage work and radical thinning preserved the balance.

The result is evident in the glass: cassis and black cherry, eucalyptus, violets and liquorice – a nose of vibrant precision, almost reductive in its intensity. There are also spicy notes of tobacco, mint and a hint of graphite. The fragrance oscillates between freshness and warmth, between floral elegance and earthy depth. The palate reveals the full monumentality of this wine: full-bodied, with a silky texture and polished tannins that coat the mouth without dominating. The structure is present, the fruit ripe but never overripe – dense layers of blackcurrants and sour cherries, framed by roasted spices and cinnamon. The final is long, warming and yet perfectly balanced, with an aftertaste of mint and tobacco that can still be felt minutes later. Tenuta di Trinoro is not a wine for the moment. It requires time – two or three years at least, preferably a decade or more, to fully reveal its complexity. But those who are patient will be rewarded: with a wine that is richer than Bordeaux, more complex than other Tuscan blends, and which has nothing typical about it except its excellence. Unctuous and flamboyant to the core, the 2022 is a total stunner. It can be enjoyed young, as the tannins are rather soft, but I would prefer to give it a few years in bottle to allow some of the baby fat to melt away.
