Seven bridges span the Arno on the road from Florence to Arezzo; one of them, the Buriano Bridge, is believed to be the backdrop to Leonardo's Mona Lisa. The Tenuta Sette Ponti is named after them. In the 1990s, Antonio Moretti Cuseri took over the business from his father, stopped selling the grapes and brought in winegrowers and Oenologist. The first Oreno was produced in 1999. Whilst travelling, the wine lover was impressed by the Bordeaux varieties, so he had them planted here – where they had not previously been grown – with the help of the renowned vine grafting specialist Gilbert Bouvet, who grafted onto mature vines. The wine takes its name from the Oreno stream, which runs through the estate. The Merlot is planted near the water, in the area with the highest clay content, whilst the Cabernet Sauvignon is grown on stonier ground with pebbles.

The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 250 metres, facing south; winds from the neighbouring Pratomagno mountain range keep the vines dry and healthy. The estate has been cultivating the vineyards organically since the early 2000s. The vines are pruned short and thinned out several times; after destemming, the berries are sorted by hand. Fermentation and maceration take around 25 days, under temperature-controlled conditions with frequent pumping over. The wine spends 18 months in French oak barriques, followed by a further year of bottle ageing.

A deep ruby red with violet highlights. The bouquet offers ripe red fruits, chocolate and notes of roasted coffee, complemented by balsamic undertones; overall, full-bodied and complex. On the palate, it is powerful and well-structured, yet dynamic, with spicy oak in the background, long and elegant tannins, and a lingering finish.
