On the terraced south and south-east slopes of the Conca d'Oro, a wine is created that is more than just a homage – it is the materialisation of a vision. D'Alceo bears the name of its creator, Alceo di Napoli, who in the early 1990s ventured an experiment on virgin, never before cultivated soil that was to become a legend. Where olive trees once stood and stables characterised the land, the terraced vineyards that Antonio Galloni describes as the embodiment of everything that makes these slopes of Panzano so extraordinary have been created to this day.
Vigna d'Alceo is more than just a vineyard – it is the testament of a man who could not have foreseen the excellence his combination of vines and terroir would achieve. After Alceo's death in 1991, his children Luca and Maurizia completed their father's work and transformed it into the estate's first fully biodynamic vineyard. Since the first planting of Cabernet Sauvignon in 1990 and Petit Verdot in 1991/92, this parcel has followed the rhythms of nature, the lunar cycles and Rudolf Steiner's biodynamic philosophy.
D'Alceo 2020 presents itself with an impenetrable, rich ruby violet colour. The bouquet is a symphony of ripe blackcurrants, cherry liqueur and blackberries, interwoven with exotic spices, black roses and a mineral note of crushed stone. The true magic of this terroir is revealed on the palate: despite its dark radiance and impressive concentration, the wine never seems ponderous or stolid. It carries its weight with feather-light grace, supported by dry tannins and a wonderful layering of fruit. The flavours of cassis, cherry liqueur, dark chocolate and spicy herbs unfold in layers, while delicate notes of sage, mint, lavender and fine tobacco underline the complexity. SUPERIORE.DE
