In 1972, Herbert Tiefenbrunner did something that was considered a gamble at the time: he planted Müller-Thurgau. A grape variety associated with simple, uncomplicated wines from cooler northern regions, and he did so at an altitude of 1,000 metres, on the Fennberg plateau in the municipality of Margreid. One hectare to begin with, today there are three. The vines are planted on a gentle south-facing slope, sheltered at the rear by the mighty rocky ridge of the Rotwand, which keeps out the cold north winds. The soil is exceptional: red, loamy-sandy earth, interspersed with white and red marble, porphyry and granite boulders, with dolomite and limestone beneath. The high salt content of this subsoil shapes the characteristic fruit and herbal aromas for which this vineyard is now regarded as a benchmark across Europe – the highest Müller-Thurgau growing area on the entire continent!

When Herbert Tiefenbrunner died in 2015, the family paid a special tribute to this vineyard: the 2015 vintage was released as the "In Memoriam Edition". Christof Tiefenbrunner, representing the next generation, continues to uphold the belief that this underrated grape variety, when grown on this particular terroir, is capable of elegance, aromatic complexity and remarkable ageing potential – an assessment shared by critics such as Dr Daniele Cernilli of DoctorWine.

Pale straw yellow with greenish highlights. The bouquet is intensely aromatic: white flowers, yellow fruits, peach and apricot. On the palate, it has a delicate, elegant body with juicy harmony and fresh acidity, leading to final lingering final. As it matures, the mineral notes become more pronounced.
