Siccagno is Arianna Occhipinti's personal monologue about Nero d'Avola – not a loud one, but a concentrated, quiet and deep-breathing one. The name comes from the Sicilian term for dry farming (sicco) and aptly describes the origin of this wine: deep-rooted vines in calcareous soils near Vittoria, not irrigated, consciously entrusted to nature. 2021 was a year with clear light, good aeration and a vegetative cycle without extreme heat or stress – perfect conditions for a subtly structured vintage. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermented spontaneously with natural yeasts and macerated on the skins for around 30 days. The wine is matured for 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels – no haste, no fining, no filtering. Just patience and trust in what the soil tells us.

A clear ruby red colour with a garnet-red hue in the glass. A quiet, complex panorama opens up on the nose: sour cherry, ripe plum, a hint of orange zest, dried herbs, tar, earth and a hint of smoked salt. All subtly interwoven, never superficial. Fine density and texture on the palate: polished tannins, lively but never sharp acidity and a mineral-accented length reminiscent of lava rock and Mediterranean scrub. "Siccagno, a single-varietal Nero d'Avola, has a dark ruby red colour and develops deep aromas of crushed blackberries, chocolate-covered hazelnuts, leather and a hint of tar. It is the darkest wine in the range. A strong acidity and slightly dusty tannins form the backbone for layers of black fruit reminiscent of undergrowth. It is a little more rustic than the Frappato-based wines and will show best with some bottle age." Decanter
