Bombolieri lies high up on a limestone plateau north of Vittoria. It is the place where the sand becomes flatter and the white rocks of the Iblei emerge to the surface. It is a barren, light-coloured landscape, swept by the wind, which has always fascinated Arianna Occhipinti. Her plot in Contrada Bombolieri lies exactly where three geological zones meet – a place of tension, depth and distinctive character. And from this site comes a Frappato that uncompromisingly expresses its origins. Spontaneously fermented, spending around 30 days on the skins. It is aged for 22 months in concrete tanks – a deliberate choice to ensure purity, texture and authenticity. Like all wines in this range, the BB remains unfiltered and unclarified.

In the glass, a clear ruby red with a delicate purple rim. The nose opens with red sour cherry, wild blueberries, a hint of tamarind, pink pepper and dried fennel. On the palate, it is very clear, almost crystalline – with cool acidity, fine-grained tannins and a salty, mineral vein that emerges from the depths. Despite its brightness and elegance, this Frappato possesses a linear power that seems almost graphic: no superfluous ornamentation, no loud gestures, but pure energy and precision. BB is the most precise, perhaps the most intellectual Frappato in the Contrada range – a wine like a chalk line in the landscape, quiet, uncompromising, and yet full of emotion. SUPERIORE.DE
