At Giovanni Rosso, Ester Canale Rosso is more than just the name on a bottle: it accompanies the estate's most prestigious wines, from Barolo Vignarionda to Langhe Nebbiolo, as a tribute to the family's history. Since the debut vintage of 2024, the name has also been given to a white wine from far beyond the Piedmontese hills – the Etna Bianco DOC from Contrada Pietra Marina, a plot acquired in 2023 on the northern slope of the volcano, not far from the Alcantara, the second vintage of which is now available in 2025. The Contrada has been regarded for decades as one of the volcano's finest white wine sites, long before Giovanni Rosso established himself here.

Two hectares at an altitude of 537 metres, volcanic sand and ash intermixed with fluvial deposits and sandstone banks: here, the Carricante ripens slowly and evenly, with constant aeration and significant temperature fluctuations. The grapes are harvested by hand in October; the must then ferments for 15 to 20 days in a cool steel tank, before the wine matures on the fine lees for five months, with weekly stirring.

Pale yellow with greenish highlights in the glass. Ripe lime and grapefruit zest combine with white peach and a hint of smoked flint. Taut and straightforward on the palate, with a salty, iodine-like note and a long, cool finish on limestone. A white wine that does not merely claim its volcanic origins, but proves them.
