The quality of Italian white wines has improved significantly over the last 20 years, and this also applies to Verdicchio. There are still quite a few poor, old-fashioned wines out there, but the good ones can be a real revelation. The region around Matelica in particular has made Verdicchio famous, as it is here – and mostly from the higher-altitude vineyards – that the finest examples of this wine are produced: complex, mineral, fresh and long-lasting.

Vigneto Fogliano is produced only in the finest vintages from a careful selection of Verdicchio grapes grown in the Biscis' finest vineyard. On the nose, it offers green fruit with lovely notes of honeydew melon and summer jasmine. Its deep, multi-layered flavours of apples, pears, fresh citrus fruits and a hint of menthol caress the palate with a creamy texture, before a salty minerality and fresh acidity take centre stage, elevating the wine to a level of perfection that is unrivalled. Fogliano spends 18 months on the lees in concrete tanks before being bottled in numbered bottles. Quite simply put, it is a magnificent white wine! SUPERIORE.DE
