    • "Monte Lodoletta" Valpolicella Superiore DOC 2013

“Monte Lodoletta” Valpolicella Superiore DOC 2013

The star of the house gives the Dominator in the Dal-Forno style like every year. Dark and dense, it reveals an intense bouquet with jammy aromas of red and dark fruits, alongside which spices and wood, tobacco and chocolate echo. As an overwhelming demonstration of power one experiences at the same time the youthful stormy taste. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2013 Valpolicella Superiore Monte Lodoletta is an especially elegant, pretty and understated expression of the Dal Forno style. Black cherries dipped in rum, plum sauce, brown spices and a dusting of cocoa rise up from the glass. It’s silky and polished, seamlessly washing across the palate with plush ripe red and black currants, while leaving minerals and a fine coating of tannin in its wake. Zesty acids add further cheek-puckering tension, as this tapers off structured, with notes of mocha and mentholated herbs lingering long. The 2013 has a lot to say, but it isn’t quite ready to fully open up. Also, with all of its poise, and at 14.5%, it can pair with a wide variety of foods." Vinous

"A remarkably concentrated red, redolent of dark-cherry ice cream, stuffed with chocolate-chip flakes that turn into meatier, earthier nuances of steak tartar and forest floor. Full-throttle and lavishly chewy, the tannins pucker all sides of the mouth with mesmerizing intensity; nevertheless they remain polished and acutely detailed, like an extravagant, wool-woven, Moroccan veil." James Suckling

"This is a terrific wine that stood out - and stood tall - despite the fact that it was tasted alongside some of Dal Forno's most important vintages of the top-shelf Amarone. If that's not a full-on recommendation, I don't know what is. The 2013 Valpolicella Superiore Monte Lodoletta oozes forth with thick concentration and an inky black color. The mouthfeel is thick and impenetrable, and the senses are treated to a long succession of black fruit, tar, spice, smoke, mesquite and barbecue flavors. The wine is full-bodied and very opulent, but it carries that massive intensity with grace and precision. This Valpolicella Superiore is very nicely done." Robert Parker

"From one of the most iconic wineries in the Orientale, this is aged for two years in oak and a further three in bottle. A proper meditation wine, great with game, strong cheeses or a cigar. It has a huge nose of stewed red fruits, ethereal bramble forest fruits and blackberry jam. Generous, with spicy, bitter cherry-stone freshness. Full-bodied with a rich, intense, spicy undertone." “Monte Lodoletta” Valpolicella Superiore DOC 2014

"The 2014 is a unique rendition of Dal Forno’s Valpolicella Superiore Monte Lodoletta. It's a remarkably pretty wine, displaying crushed ripe strawberries and plums with cinnamon, clove, vanilla bean and a cooling hint of mint. The textures are velvety, coating all that they touch in glycerol fruit concentration, yet somehow coming across as zesty and spry, contrasting weight with saturating notes of tart blackberry and savory spice. There’s a bit of a lull in the midpalate, yet it hardly takes away from the experience. At times, the Monte Lodoletta can seem almost salty, especially through its long, mouthwatering finish, where hints of cherry pits and herbs linger. This atypical yet truly enjoyable expression is the result of the extremely difficult 2014 vintage, when hail damaged and reduced the crop in the lower-elevation vineyards, followed by rain from August through September. As a result, Dal Forno decided not to produce their Amarone, and to instead focus all of their attention on the Valpolicella. The result is a wine that no Dal Forno fan should miss." Vinous

"A beautiful, polished red with dried-berry, plum, floral and cedar aromas. Full body and a flavorful finish. Extremely refined and polished, more so than many past vintages. Already gorgeous, but needs a year or two to come together." James Suckling

    • "Rosso del Bepi" Veneto IGP 2010

“Rosso del Bepi” Veneto IGP 2010

The Quintarelli family decides rigorously when the top wine can be an Amarone and when - due to the climate and yield - the result is "declassified" and a small amount then named after the nickname of the founder is put on the market. Connoisseurs are almost waiting for it, because this extremely rare drop has it all and does more than justice to the founding father.

Strong, bright ruby red. Complex berry scent with a potpourri of red fruits, notes of fig and a perfectly conducted orchestra of spices. Massive and warm on the palate, of great harmony and depth, the well-defined muscles and a carefully woven tannin framework guide this balsamic red into a long, impressive final. With such outstanding quality, it really doesn't matter now whether the wine is called Amarone or not ... Giuseppe "Bepi" would be proud of the result! SUPERIORE.DE

“Ognisanti” Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC 2018 · 6 Bottles in OWC

The grapes for this top-class Valpolicella Classico come from rather barren, calcareous and terraced vineyards of the Tenuta Novare above the Ognisanti church. Here, wines of greater complexity, perfect structure and higher concentration than in most other sites of the Valpolicella are produced. Sparkling ruby garnet. Fragrant nose with beautiful overtones of sour cherry, dried flowers and white pepper. Perfectly balanced on the palate with firm tannins and, thanks to the wood finish, wonderful spiciness and fruit depth. A superior, winning wine from the core zone of Valpolicella. SUPERIORE.DE

    • "La Grola" Rosso Veronese IGT 2016<br>Artist Label "Hiroyuki Masuyama" <br>6 Bottles in OWC

“La Grola” Rosso Veronese IGT 2016 · Artist Label “Hiroyuki Masuyama” · 6 Bottles in OWC

La Grola is the historic vineyard that gave its name to Corvina, the autochthonous grape of Valpolicella, which is probably its origin. The replanting of the vineyard by Giovanni Allegrini sparked an agronomic revolution and laid the foundations for the success of this wine-growing area, which today is home to great red wines from north-eastern Italy.

So it is not surprising that La Grola receives a special honour from its magnificent location. Since 2010, Allegrini has been collaborating with internationally renowned artists, publishing year after year a unique, limited artist edition. The edition opened with a work by Milo Manara, continued in 2011 with a label designed by Arthur Duff and continued in 2012 with a painting by Athos Faccincani. The composition VI by Wassily Kandinsky was selected for La Grola in 2013, and in 2014 the artistic journey went to Brazil and to Nazareno Rodrigues Alves, before returning to Italy with the 2015 edition to Leonardo Ulian.

The 2016 vintage was interpreted by a great Japanese artist: Hiroyuki Masuyama. In a highly innovative process, La Grola's Limited Edition ennobles the fascinating synthesis of overlapping shots. A total of 288 photographs are incorporated into this work, showing one of the legendary vineyards of Valpolicella from an exciting and completely new perspective. Time and space are the fundamental elements of Hiroyuki Masuyama's overall creativity: everything revolves around these two concepts, which have been formalised differently over the years and have become the hallmark of his work. Masuyama combines and overlaps the result of hundreds of photographs taken of his subject from a fixed angle. The result of this superimposition is another image of the same place.

In each wooden box of 6 there is a bottle with Masuyama's exclusive artist's label. We are pleased to be able to offer you some copies of the special edition, which is strictly limited every year!

Dense, dark ruby red, in the nose very full-bodied and strong with tones of forest and overripe berries. The rich fullness from coffee to black cherries is accompanied by present, pleasant tannins. SUPERIORE.DE

"Lovely balance, as always, to this super Veronese red with juicy dark fruit and hints of black chocolate. Medium to full body, succulent tannins and a fresh finish." James Suckling

"Very inky and toasty nose. On the palate the wine is elegant, fresh and poised with classy, well-integrated oak, flavours of plums and cherries and tight tannins, which will soften in time." Decanter

Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOP 2013 · MAGNUM

Apart from dal Forno's Valpolicella, this is probably the only wine from this appellation that redefines the character of this well-known Veronese red wine in a stunning way and justifiably sets a benchmark that is unattainable for most winemakers in the region. Strong, dark ruby-red with isolated garnet-red reflexes. On the nose, a cornucopia of small red berries, plus sweet cherry, cedar and smoke. At the palate firm, complex and multilayered with an elegance which enters together with the impressive body a masterly symbiosis. Produced in the traditional Ripasso method and, as always, perfectly modelled in terms of craftsmanship. Great! SUPERIORE.DE

    • "Monte Lodoletta" Valpolicella Superiore DOC 2011 <br>MAGNUM in OWC

“Monte Lodoletta” Valpolicella Superiore DOC 2011 · MAGNUM in OWC

Three years after the Annata, Romano and his sons are launching a small edition of the same vintage in a magnum bottle. Dark and dense, it reveals an intense bouquet with jammy aromas of red and dark fruits, alongside which spices and wood, tobacco and chocolate echo. As an overwhelming demonstration of power one experiences at the same time the youthful stormy taste. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2011 Valpolicella Superiore Monte Lodoletta is a darkly concentrated but carefully balanced expression that only the most expert vintner can pull off with success. Consider that the dry extract is a massive 48 grams per liter. In fact, there is some minor precipitation of color matter even at this relatively young age. This wine was aged in new oak for two years (instead of the standard three years) with four years bottle (instead of three). That extra year in glass served to help the wine integrate and to reduce micro-oxygenation. The bouquet is bright and fragrant with floral notes of rose and violet that are rare to find in Valpolicella. There are faint tertiary notes as well that add to the complexity. You will find cured leather and savory spice. The finish offers enough acidity to refresh the palate, following that considerable density and thickness." Robert Parker

"A powerful and dense red with so much concentration of fruit and chocolate undertones. Hints of toasted oak. Full body and a velvety texture. Fantastic and dense red as usual." James Suckling

"This wine is a blend of 70 per cent Corvina with 20 per cent Rondinella and just 5 per cent each of Croatina and Oseleta. It’s deep black-red in colour, and is dark and forceful, sombre yet voluptuous in aroma: a harmonious weave of black chocolate, sloe and elderberry, with the years in oak bringing a cedary refinement. On the palate, it’s a vault of a wine: deep, dark and roomy, packed with earthy refinements and black-fruited echoes, both severe yet soft and enticing too. The tannins are ample yet fine-grained, the acidity delicate and sustaining. I wrote about the ‘crocodilian’ character of grand Veneto dried-fruit reds wine back in April, but the teeth are polished ivory here. This is horizon-altering ‘Valpolicella’ which would perform outstandingly in any Amarone tasting." Decanter
