When Roberto Anselmi talks about his sweet wines, his eyes light up differently. Here, the rebel is suddenly a traditionalist – because I Capitelli stands for the centuries-old Veneto art of creating golden nectar from dried grapes. But where others at least seek DOC recognition for their Recioto di Soave, Roberto once again breaks all the rules: His Passito is simply a "Vino Bianco" – table wine. The most radical form of protest.

The finest Garganega grapes are selected after the harvest – 30 to 40 per cent are already infested with botrytis, the noble mould that gives the wine its inimitable complexity. They are then dried on ventilated racks until they turn sultanas, a process that requires months of patience. 2023 brought perfect conditions for both botrytis development in the vineyard and subsequent drying. After fermentation, the wine matures for eight months in French barriques.

The result is liquid gold: intense golden yellow with aromas of lime blossom honey, mango, passion fruit and candied orange. On the palate, a seductive interplay between opulent sweetness and volcanic minerality, carried by lively acidity. One of the best passito wines in Italy as a simple "table wine" – this is indisputably Roberto's sweetest provocation and a real treat for any connoisseur. SUPERIORE.DE
