When Roberto Anselmi talks about his sweet wines, his eyes light up in a different way. Here, the rebel suddenly becomes a traditionalist – for I Capitelli embodies the centuries-old Venetian art of crafting golden nectar from dried grapes. Yet whilst others seek at least DOC status for their Recioto di Soave, Roberto once again breaks all the rules: his Passito is simply a "Vino Bianco" – a table wine. The most radical form of protest.

The finest Garganega grapes are selected after the harvest – by which point 30 to 40% are already affected by Botrytis, the noble rot that gives the resulting wine its inimitable complexity. They are then dried on ventilated racks until they become golden raisins, a process that requires months of patience. 2023 brought perfect conditions both for the development of Botrytis in the vineyard and for the subsequent drying process. After fermentation, the wine is aged for eight months in French barriques.

The result is liquid gold: an intense golden yellow with aromas of lime blossom honey, mango, passion fruit and candied orange. On the palate, a seductive interplay between opulent sweetness and volcanic minerality, underpinned by lively acidity. One of Italy's finest Passito wines served as a simple 'table wine' – this is undoubtedly Roberto's sweetest provocation and a true treat for any connoisseur. SUPERIORE.DE
