Wine-growing has been practised in the Maremma since the time of the Etruscans. Amphorae and bowls found in their necropolises bear witness to this. The gentle hillsides along the Ombrone, covered with vines and olive trees – where his friend Gianni Andreini owned an estate – inspired Antonio Moretti Cuseri to produce top-quality wines here. The Cabernet Sauvignon was the estate's first wine, released in 2003, and still bears its name today. Its vineyards lie at an altitude of 120 metres, on red, iron-rich soil full of stones, which drains water well and accentuates the contrasts between day and night. The must ferments for 25 days at a controlled temperature. This is followed by 14 months in small barrels and half a year of bottle ageing before the wine leaves the estate.

An intense ruby red. On the nose, dark cherry, spices and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is dense and spicy, yet open and relaxed, with pleasantly pronounced tannins. Wine has been enjoyed on this coast since the time of the Etruscans, so a Cabernet certainly has nothing left to prove to anyone. SUPERIORE.DE
