A white wine from Trinoro? Andrea Franchetti planted Sémillon in 2001 on a tiny sandy plot in the forest, 630 metres above sea level – originally with the vision of creating a sweet wine. But year after year, the harvest yielded dry, concentrated grapes. What followed was a wine that Franchetti initially kept to himself: tasted, analysed and perfected for years. It was not until 2017 that he dared to bottle it commercially for the first time. Today, after more than two decades, Trinoro Bianco is considered one of the most fascinating white wines in Tuscany. Fermented partly in steel tanks, partly in small wooden barrels, matured in concrete tanks – a vinification process that preserves purity and structure in equal measure.

The 2023 epitomises what Sémillon can achieve on Tuscan terroir. Brilliant golden yellow in colour. The nose is bursting with vibrancy: fresh pear, white flowers, citrus zest, plus subtle notes of jasmine and golden apple. An aroma of unquenchable energy that immediately captivates. The palate reveals all its complexity: full-bodied, with a silky texture and a freshness that comes from the altitude and the cool September harvest. The high, radiant acidity cuts through the body, giving the wine tension and length without ever appearing harsh. Beguiling even at a young age, although it will certainly only reach its peak after ten years. Bianco Trinoro requires patience – but those who wait will be rewarded with a depth and elegance that is unrivalled in Tuscany. Only 2,900 bottles were filled in 2023 – a comparatively generous harvest for this micro-plot in the forest.
