Carnasciale botte grande is a fascinating expression of the Tuscan originality that makes the small Il Carnasciale vineyard high above the Arno Valley so unique. The pure Caberlot, a rare, almost unknown variety and cross between Cabernet and Merlot, grows on barren, stony terraces at altitudes of up to 520 metres above sea level. The 2022 vintage was characterised by a warm but not extreme summer and cool nights in September - ideal conditions for a slow, phenolically mature harvest.

In contrast to the classic Il Carnasciale, this wine is matured exclusively in large, neutral wooden barrels, which gives it additional transparency and texture. In the glass, it has a deep ruby colour with violet hues. The nose is cool and focussed, with notes of black cherry, cranberry, juniper, violet and mineral notes. The palate is juicy, straightforward and carried by dancing elegance. The tannins are silky, the acidity finely woven, the finish is long, subtly spicy and characterised by an almost Burgundian freshness.
