    A rare white wine from the heart of Chianti Classico: Il Bianco is the remarkable exception in a terroir dominated by red wine. The white grape varieties used in this exceptional cuvée have been thriving for over 45 years on the historic dry-stone terraces of Castellina in Chianti, which were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. The blend, comprising 60% Procanico (a local Trebbiano clone), 30% Viognier and 10% Malvasia Bianca, embodies the visionary style of the Swiss Bär-Bettschart family.

    On the galestro-rich soils at an altitude of 420 metres, amongst fragrant roses and centuries-old olive trees, these grapes ripen particularly slowly – they are amongst the last to be harvested and develop exceptionally thick skins, which lend the wine its intense aroma. Vinification is carried out separately by grape variety: Procanico and Malvasia mature for seven months sur lies in French oak barrels, whilst the Viognier retains its fresh fruitiness in stainless steel tanks. Following blending, the wine is aged for a further three months in bottle in the climate-controlled cellar.

    The result is a complex Burgundian white wine of remarkable depth: a creamy, elegant texture, with aromas of white flowers, ripe pears and delicate spicy notes, underpinned by the mineral character of the ancient terraces. A wine that proves Tuscany has something extraordinary to offer when it comes to white wines too – a white pearl amidst the sea of red Chianti. SUPERIORE.DE

    "The certified organic Gagliole 2024 Il Bianco is made from grapes grown at the estate in Castellina in Chianti. It reveals aromas of orchard fruit, ripe pear and quince, complemented by softer notes of honey, white peach and acacia blossom. It also displays a lovely mineral quality, with hints of gravel and a touch of flint, which lend the wine definition against the sweeter fruit flavours. On the palate, it is smooth and moderately creamy, with enough freshness to keep it crisp and focused. Vinification and ageing take place in French and Hungarian oak barriques." Wine Advocate
