    Le Macchiole is the house of Monovitigni. Messorio, the pure Merlot. Paleo Rosso, the pure Cabernet Franc. Lo Scrio, the pure Syrah. Three radical choices, three wines that show what a single grape variety can achieve in Bolgheri. The Bolgheri Rosso goes in exactly the opposite direction – and is no less convincing. Since 2004, Cinzia Merli, widow of founder Eugenio Campolmi, has been producing this wine from young vineyards on the estate: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah – all four together, in a blend that takes up the classic Bolgheri tradition of bordolese taglio and gives it its own signature. Hand-picked, 15 days of maceration in steel, then ten months of ageing in used barriques (70%) and cement tanks (30%). The younger plots give the wine the fresh, accessible energy that Le Macchiole describes as the estate's "calling card".

    Deep ruby red colour. Cherry, dark berries, violets and Mediterranean herbs on the nose – direct and inviting. Fresh and complex on the palate, with silky tannins and a long, clear finish. Bolgheri – without detours and without compromise. SUPERIORE.DE
