Cannonau is part of Sardinia's DNA – and Sartiglia is Contini's accessible expression of this traditional grape variety. The grapes come from vineyards in the province of Oristano, near the west coast, where sea breezes and sandy soils create a warm but balanced microclimate. The wine is aged partly in stainless steel and partly for six months in used barriques – this allows the fruit to remain in the foreground, supported by subtle ripeness and depth.

Deep ruby red in the glass with a youthful lustre. The nose is inviting and typical of the variety: ripe cherry, red plum and a hint of blackberry, accompanied by Mediterranean herbs, some liquorice and a fine touch of leather. Soft and round on the palate, with well-integrated acidity that lends the wine freshness. The tannins are polished and the wood remains in the background. The finish is pleasantly spicy and reveals subtle notes of tobacco and dried fruit. An authentic Cannonau with Sardinian temperament and a lot of drinking pleasure – stylistically clear, but not simple, and therefore a wonderful accompaniment to the island's down-to-earth cuisine.
