    • "Senes" Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva DOC 2016

“Senes” Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva DOC 2016

Senes, a riserva from mainly Cannonau, has an intense bouquet of aromas of forest fruits, Mediterranean herbs and tobacco. Full-bodied on the palate with deep fruit, rounded tannins, balanced structure and beguiling length. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright ruby. Ripe but lively and easygoing aromas of strawberry, milk chocolate and licorice. Sweet, suave and fine-grained, with a distinctly creamy character to the red fruit and milk chocolate flavors. Well-integrated acidity keeps this plush Cannonau from coming off as heavy or one dimensional. Closes with very good length." Vinous

"Beautiful aromas of ripe fruit and plenty of tar, together with flowers. Full body. Rich and velvety. Long, flavorful finish. Just the right amount of wood to furnish chocolate undertones." James Suckling

    Things to know aboutCannonau

The grape variety came to Sardinia with the Spaniards and is identical to the Garnacha Tinta. All Sardinia is included in the DOC Cannonau di Sardegna for red wine and rosé. A total of approx. 6,200 hectares. Does the label also say "Classico"then the Cannonau (or in dialect also Cannonao) is from the Nuoro region including Ogliastra.

    The Spaniard among the Sardinians.

There are still three sub-zones allowed on the label: Capo Ferrato in the south near the capital Cagliari, Cannonau di Sardegna Jerzu comes from the east located barren mountain region around the municipality Jerzu near the magnificent tourist regions around Tortoli - and the region around the city Oliena, near the almost 1500m high towering mountains of the Supramonte mountains. Here the Cannonau is also called Nepente di Oliena, so the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio named it in his works, presumably after an opium-like intoxicant of the Greeks.

    Blue Velvet.

Different varieties are pressed: Rosso, Riserva, Rosato, Passito and Liquoroso. Cannonau di Sardegna Classico DOC must contain 90% Cannonau, all others at least 85%. The rest may consist of other red wine varieties, usually the blending partners are also autochthonous grape varieties such as Bovale Sardo, Malvasia Nera and Carignano. Cannonau di Sardegna are mostly powerfully structured, delicately velvety red wines with aromas from dark cherries to plums and a typical delicate musk spice. Some of the best Cannonau blends are marketed under the name Isola dei Nuraghi IGT. In addition to Sardinia, there is a small area in Veneto where a variety of Cannonau produces very elegant and mineral wines, called the hills of Vicenza, Colli Berici. The Cannonau here is called Tai Rosso, formerly Tocai Rosso. SUPERIORE.DE
