A Barbera with a mysterious appearance – as if one were gazing into a dark, purplish-red abyss from which concentrated essences rise. Scarrone Vigna Vecchia comes from vines that are decades old – some planted around 1918 – in the Scarrone vineyard near Castiglione Falletto. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by around 16 months' ageing in predominantly French barriques; here, the judicious use of oak subtly enhances the terroir.

A deep ruby red with violet glints, almost impenetrable. The nose reveals complex, concentrated aromas: black cherry, blackberry and ripe plum, underpinned by liquorice, notes of toasted almond, a floral hint of violet and a subtle, sweet-spicy depth. There is also a cool minerality and a hint of cedar – powerful, yet clearly structured. On the palate, it is eminently focused: juicy red fruit meets fine-grained, dense tannins and lively acidity that guides the wine without harshness. The texture is silky, the fruit has a warm, toasty quality, and the finish is broad, spicy and mineral, lingering for a long time.
