    For decades, the Sottimano family in Neive has vinified five individual Barbaresco vineyards separately: Cotta, Pajoré, Fausoni, Basarin and Currà – each with its own signature, each an independent argument for the terroir of the municipality. The Langhe Nebbiolo at Sottimano is normally made from the younger vines of the Basarin vineyard, while the older vines contribute their material to the five Barbaresco cru.

    In 2024, Andrea Sottimano made a different decision. A difficult vintage – the conditions did not allow for a Barbaresco to which he would give his name. So he completely declassified all five cru sites: Cotta, Pajoré, Fausoni, Basarin and Currà together in the Langhe Nebbiolo. No half solution, no compromise. Either the best – or the most honest alternative. The result is a Langhe Nebbiolo that will never be made again: spontaneous fermentation, contact with the skins, spontaneous malolactic fermentation, ageing in large wooden barrels – same care as always, same vineyards, different appellation. 13.5% alcohol, fine tannins, exceptional complexity. The five cru clearly speak from this wine – only with Langhe Nebbiolo ageing.

    Clear, bright ruby red colour. Sweet flowers, rose petals, red fruit, mint and liquorice on the nose. Fresh and accessible on the palate, with fine tannins, good depth and a pleasantly long finish. A unique vintage – and a courageous commitment to quality rather than quantity. SUPERIORE.DE
