This breathtaking Barbaresco (total production approx. 1,300 bottles) shows more power and intensity than you would normally find in a Barbaresco. It opens with heady aromas of wild berries, new leather, undergrowth and menthol. On the palate, it shows ripe black raspberries, juicy cherries and liquorice before finishing on a tobacco note. It is still youthfully nervous and somewhat austere, it still needs some time to develop fully. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, shiny ruby red colour. Spicy nose of rose petals, raspberries, pepper, orange syrup and rose hips, with subtle hints of tea on the finish. Very juicy and very compact on the palate, with a dancing, light-footed finish and elegant spice." Falstaff
"The aromas and flavours of preserved cherries, strawberries, aniseed, iron and alpine herbs are enveloped by plenty of flesh. Firm, even bordering on austere, yet balanced and very long, with an aftertaste of fruit and minerals. Seductive from the start, it is accessible despite its firm structure." Wine Spectator
"The 2019 Barbaresco Montefico Vecchie Viti is an intoxicating, explosive wine. Bright, focussed and energetic, the 2019 screams with Montefico character. Crushed stones, slate, mint, white pepper, dried cherry and chalk are some of the many notes that characterise this taut, vibrant Barbaresco. Clean mineral notes effortlessly extend the finish. The Montefico is often one of my favourite wines in the range. The 2019 is really something special. What a wine!" Vinous
"The Montefico tends to be more aromatic, revealing many layers of complexity that change quickly and fluidly. It starts with floral notes of roses and violets and then moves into redcurrant and spicy liquorice. The quality of the firm tannins in 2019 is outstanding, and the acidity is just right. This cellar-worthy Nebbiolo finishes with elegant chalky impressions." Wine Advocate
