Pieluni is Illuminati's flagship wine - a single-varietal Montepulciano made from selected grapes from old vines in the highest parcels of the Colline Teramane. The exceptional 2017 vintage was characterised by heat, drought and low yields, but produced concentrated, healthy berries with a dense tannin structure. Fermentation was followed by careful ageing in new and used barriques for 24 months, followed by long bottle ageing.

Rich ruby colour with a garnet-red shimmer. The bouquet is complex and brooding: dark cherries, blackcurrant, leather, truffles, mocha, dried herbs and a hint of graphite. On the palate, it shows plenty of density, fleshy fruit, precise tannins, well-integrated acidity and an elegant, almost cool minerality. The finish is long, spicy and clearly contoured - a Montepulciano of aristocratic power and inner tension that gains depth and nobility with time. A masterpiece from Abruzzo that impressively demonstrates how much origin and potential there is in this traditional grape variety. SUPERIORE.DE
