Barolo Baudana 2018 storms the glass with plenty of energy and intensity. Black cherry fruit, smoke, wild herbs, liquorice and tar form a compelling backdrop of aromas, flavours and textures as this dazzling, powerhouse Barolo opens in the glass. The intense final is accompanied by delicate rose petals, lavender and a subtle mineral-salty vein. As usual, the grapes come from a selection of old vines in the Mosconi, Gabutti and Ravera plots, whose limestone- and clay-rich soils lend the wines a delicate minerality and structure. The wine is aged separately by vineyard for around 12 months in used barriques before the cuvée is blended. A deep ruby red with a purple core – a glance into the glass already reveals the depth of this vintage. The bouquet unfolds into a complex interplay of aromas of ripe cherry, plum and dark berries, accompanied by hints of violet, liquorice and a touch of dried herbs. On the palate, it is juicy and focused, with lively acidity, ripe fruit and supple tannins. The 2023 vintage currently appears a touch fresher and more youthful than its predecessor, yet retains the balance between regional roots and the finely nuanced style for which Chiara Boschis is renowned. The fruit for this wine comes from four unique vineyards at different altitudes, all located in different parts of the appellation. Le Ragnaies Brunello 2020 is a tour de force of Sangiovese that traverses the entire continuum of Sangiovese. It begins auspiciously with wild cherry, followed by pressed blue flowers, spices and floral earth. In addition to these typical tones, there are also cherry, blackcurrant and other classic Sangiovese flavours, followed by notes of dried mint and Mediterranean herbs in the impressive final. Luca de Marchi's showpiece is the Rosso of the same name from the small DOC Lessona. Fresh garnet red and a rather restrained-cool aroma spectrum open with a lot of understatement the very powerful and spicy taste experience at the first sip, which, however, never seems muscular or fleshy, but expands with constant, medium pressure and a cornucopia of ripe fruit in the mouth. Here and also in the finish, the Lessona-style Nebbiolo comes to full fruition - unlike Barolo or Barbaresco with more restraint and instead a depth that only reveals itself after some time. Gallule – a name that wafts over the hills of Castellina like a gentle breeze from times long past. It is the Lombard name for what was once the heart of this magical place: the Galla, the fruit of the centuries-old oaks that dominate the wide valley at the foot of the hills. Here, where the son of the Longobard king Berengario gave this land to his bride as a wedding gift back in 994, one of the most extraordinary Chianti Classico wines in the region is produced today. The vines that give life to this Gran Selezione are rooted in terraces that were created by man centuries ago – stone witnesses to a time when viticulture was still a craft. These UNESCO-protected terraces, nestled between olive trees and cypresses, create a microclimate of unique harmony. The Galestro-rich soils, interspersed with limestone and sedimentary stones, allow the Sangiovese roots to penetrate deep into the earth and extract the minerality that gives the wine its unmistakable signature.

Bright ruby red in colour with a slight garnet hue – a lively start to this elegant Nebbiolo from the breathtaking vineyards of Ravera near Monforte d'Alba at an altitude of around 400 metres. The vines are around 15 years old and are deeply rooted in chalky clay soil, which gives the wine its characteristic freshness and precision. After manual harvesting and gentle fermentation in stainless steel, the wine matures for around 14 months in used French barriques before being bottled.

The sandy soils north of Monforte d'Alba give this Barolo its immense power and structure. The bouquet is very open and appealing with dark cherries and raspberries, as well as notes of mint, cedar wood, rose petals and sage. Very lively and expressive on the palate, with deep beauty, seamlessly contoured and spectacular resonance. A fabulous wine from a very good vintage, classic and exotic at the same time. Pinot Nero in Lombardy is a quiet discipline - difficult to master, easy to underestimate. With Pinéro, Ca' del Bosco has been proving for decades that this grape variety can also achieve expression and elegance on the edge of the Alps. The 2019 vintage was characterised by balanced vegetation, with cool nights at harvest time - a blessing for finesse, freshness and structure. The grapes come from high-altitude vineyards in the Sebino area with calcareous, clayey soils and good air circulation. After manual harvesting in small crates and strict selection, fermentation takes place in large, open oak vats - a traditional process that preserves structure and aromatic finesse. The wine then matures for 11 months in French barriques - one part new, the other used. Everything is done with care: no excess, no forced concentration, but rather the development of fine depth.

The grapes for the exceptionally deep Vigna del Gris come from vines over 40 years old from the 1-hectare plot of the same name in Monforte d'Alba. The bouquet is beguilingly harmonious, with a convincing attack, weightless and powerful at the same time. Firm tannins and plenty of flavour on the palate, with a great texture and very juicy. Michele Chiarlo's Barbaresco Asili comes from vines that are around 30 years old and has a fragrant bouquet with bright and fresh aromas of wild cherry, blackcurrant, raspberry, blue flowers and crushed stone. This vintage shows a level of energy and vitality that makes it stand out from the crowd, and the wine is elegant and silky in texture. Tenuta Missoj is a small vineyard in Mizzole with just 3.5 hectares of vines and is owned by the Campagnola family. The vineyards extend at an altitude of 200 metres on a well-ventilated and exposed hill where the grapes can reach perfect and complete ripeness. The grapes for this Amarone Riserva come from single vineyards and the wine is aged for 24 months in new barriques made of Fleur de Quintessence oak in medium to lightly toasted Allier oak with very fine grain. Further ageing of the wine takes place in the bottle for another 12 months.

Pure Chardonnay in the finest Burgundy style in honour of Lidia, the mother of the three Rivetti brothers. Straw yellow in colour with greenish reflections. Delicate, buttery nose of pineapple and peach, with hints of stone fruit, jasmine and nutmeg. Every year, Barolo Via Nuova proves anew why the blending of several vineyards was the favoured method of Barolo producers until the 1960s, when the fascination with single-vineyard wines began. Its grapes come from the Liste, Terlo, Baudana, Gabutti, Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi cru sites.

Rocca di Frassinello's red cru "San Germano" is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small percentage of Sangioveto grapes grown on the hill of the same name, which is also the estate's highest location, where vines were cultivated by the ancient Etruscans around 3,000 years ago. A millennia-old history that has enabled the plants to select themselves and naturally develop their defences against climatic and biological adversities, resulting in healthier and higher quality grapes.
