“Franchetti” Rosso Terre Siciliane IGT 2018
Franchetti Rosso is Passopisciaro's flagship wine and a stunningly perfect wine. The grapes come from 1000-metre-high northern Etna vineyard sites, where the soils are ash and pumice. Franchetti is a ripe, exotic wine that envelops the palate with dark fruit. Refined tannins support the fruit, while an intense inner sweetness adds elegance and finesse. A thoroughly outstanding drop. SUPERIORE.DE
"The wine is saturated and thick, boasting a dark, rich appearance and carrying a 14.5% alcohol content. It shows medium-rich concentration with aromas of blackberry, black plum, spice and tar. There is some fruit softness here, but not very much, as the wine is more etched and sharp in personality. There are end notes of pencil shaving and crushed granite stone. It should be interesting to see how it fleshes out with more time in the bottle." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Franchetti coats the glass in an inky purple color while putting on a dramatic display of rich blackberry and plum sauce, lavender, sage, mocha and hints of smoke. Its velvety textures wash shades of blue and black fruit across the palate, which is seamless and elegant in feel, supported by underpinnings of salty minerals and savory herbs. There's so much going on here, and much more to come through proper cellaring, as this winds down incredibly long and gently tannic, signing off with a resonating note of citrus-tinged currants and spice. The 2018 is a more refined and lifted expression of Franchetti that should enjoy a long and wide drinking window." Vinous

“Nerosanloré" Nero d’Avola Terre Siciliane IGT 2014 (BIO) late release · MAGNUM
For some years now, Matteo Catania has been holding back a few hundred bottles of his wines in the best vintages in order to offer them to his most loyal importers after a few years. From this "private reserve" comes Nerosanloré 2014, which is now - in spring 2023 - being offered in small quantities with 5 years of further bottle ageing quasi in Riserva quality.
Precise aromas of ripe red cherries, flint, orange peel, lavender and violets. Silky and juicy on the palate, with a refined but very concentrated extract that almost crushes the taste buds, yet remains lively and not at all heavy, giving beautiful definition and lift to the red cherry, raspberry, floral and mineral flavours. The finish is very deep and long, with very soft tannins, a beguiling perfume and extreme finesse; very Barolo-like. A beautiful, complex wine that shows the elegant side of Nero d'Avola that few producers are ever able to present. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2014 NeroSanloré has a more mature bouquet than the other contradas tasted next to it, yet that's not to say that it’s any less pleasurable. Dark soil tones, tobacco, brown spice, cherry and plum sauce fill the glass with each swirl. It is velvety in feel yet lifted in weight, with tart red berries and saline-minerals that give way to rosy inner florals. A sweet and sour twang keeps the mouth watering through the licorice-tinged finale, as subtle tannins pinch at the cheeks, which keeps me looking back to the glass for more." Vinous
"Complex nose of black plum, bitter chocolate, balsamic vinegar, candied orange and a slew of baking spices. After all this extravagance, you might expect a soft and lush wine, but this full-bodied red has a very solid core of healthy tannin and is decisively dry. Surprisingly crisp finish." James Suckling
"This wine shows medium dark concentration, a distinguishing trait of this vintage. The aromas have embraced elegant tertiary definition with dried fruit, dark plummy flavors, spice, earth and smoky tar. The wine is drinking beautifully right now and gives us valuable and encouraging insight to the aging ability of this popular indigenous grape from Sicily." Wine Advocate

Barolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in gift box
Barolo Castiglione 2018 is bright, fresh and clearly defined. Crushed red berry fruit, white pepper, chalk, mint and rose petals run through this beautifully shaped Barolo. The purity of the fruit and overall energy are captivating. Castiglione is Vietti's entry-level Barolo and is always the most approachable in the bottle range, but this vintage shows a higher level of intensity, complexity and freshness. The silky tannins are accompanied by a lovely mentholated brightness into a beautiful finish. A very down-to-earth drop that unmistakably shows off its charm. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, sparkling ruby red with a shimmering core. Smells noble and fine on the nose of mint, raspberry, dried orange, fine floral components in the reverberation. Compact, juicy on the palate, comes along with gripping tannin, still needs time." Falstaff
"Plenty of wild-berry character to the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with good fruit focus and firm tannin that will need a year or two to soften. Bright and youthful. Give it time. Best from 2024." James Suckling
"The 2018 Barolo Castiglione is bright, fresh and delineated. Crushed red berry fruit, white pepper, chalk, mint and rose petal all run through this gorgeous, sculpted Barolo. The purity of the fruit and overall energy here are captivating. I would cellar the 2018 for at least a few years. It's a gorgeous wine in the making." Vinous
"Vietti has the enormous advantage of 10 MGA sites at its disposition for blending purposes. This allows them to select the fruit they want to best express any one vintage. The 2018 Barolo Castiglione draws upon those 10 sites (including the recent additions of Mosconi, Ginestra, Bricco Ravera and Briccolina) to make what is ultimately its best-selling wine. This classic rendition is tonic and clean with varietal tones of wild berry, rose and rusty nail." Wine Advocate
"The classic Barolo by Vietti, from a selection of grapes chosen amongst different vineyards in Barolo area, mainly from Villero and Ravera crus (Castiglione Falletto and Novello municipalities), specifically for 2018 vintage. Calcareous-clay soils. Sour cherry on the nose, notes of star anise and wild rose, with a finish to the notes of undergrowth. Sip with fine and iodine tannins, nice persistence and fruity-floral return." Luca Gardini

“Vigna San Marcellino” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2017 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
Sparkling ruby red. Complex and enveloping bouquet of rich cherry, black forest berries, violets, tobacco, tar, liquorice, incense and smoke in the background. The single-vineyard Chianti Classico San Marcellino is excellently structured, interwoven with lively, elegant tannins, of exemplary harmony and a savoury, slightly salty finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Seductive berry aromas, nuances of spices and dried flowers, multi-faceted; precisely crafted on the palate, the acidity and tight tannins in harmony, the finish complex and pleasantly mineral, with plenty of character and length." Vinum
"Rich ruby with a dark core. Shows pronounced spicy notes on the nose, of sandalwood and cardamom, then lots of blackberry and dark cherry. Multilayered and present on the palate, grippy, hearty tannin, shows good tension, salty, firm pressure on the final." Falstaff
"Expressive aromas of cherries, blueberries, chocolate, spices and smoked meat. The texture on the palate is creamy, with velvety tannins, showing energy and a lively violet edge towards the finish." Decanter
"This opulent Chianti Classico is highlighted by blackberry, black currant and tar, with toasty oak accents. Starts out smooth, then the dense tannins emerge. Remains long and intense on the aftertaste, which is marked by the dark fruit and iron." Wine Spectator
"The 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino is potent, but also shockingly closed for this dry, warm year. Readers will have to be patient with the 2017 as it needs quite a bit of time to be at its best. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, cloves and licorice all build into the huge, explosive finish. There's tremendous substance here, not to mention tons of sheer character." Vinous

“Bricco della Bigotta” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM
Bricco della Bigotta smells of cherries, cinnamon, black pepper and a hint of tobacco. On the palate, great finesse and harmonious balance between acidity and alcohol. Lingers long with character and class. SUPERIORE.DE
"Aromas of ripe black-skinned berry, scorched earth and baking spice emerge from the glass. The full-bodied, concentrated palate offers Marasca cherry, ripe black plum, black pepper and star anise." Wine Enthusiast
"A flamboyant barbera with ripe blackberries, but then it unleashes walnuts, vanilla and toasted oak that blasts at the end. The tannins tie it up nicely. Really fun and intense." James Suckling
"The Braida 2017 Barbera d'Asti Bricco della Bigotta shows a lot of ripe fruit that is very much in line with this vintage that saw extra heat and drought. Across the region, vintners reported smaller berry sizes with dense and more-concentrated fruit. There is a lot to take in here, as the wine is rich, super concentrated and packed tight with plummy dark fruit flavor." Wine Advocate

“Badiòla” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC
Historically, the vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli are located in the areas of three neighbouring municipalities of Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. With the 2017 vintage, the Mazzei family has for the first time vinified all three large vineyards separately as Chianti Classico Gran Selezione to reflect the diversity of the terroir: Castello di Fonterutoli, Vicoregio 36 and Badiola.
Badiòla is the historic name of a vineyard in the municipality of Radda, whose grapes are vinified separately for the first time by the Mazzei family as Gran Selezione with the 2017 vintage. Bright ruby, a restrained but clear nose of wild berries, blue flowers, undergrowth, and hints of dark pepper. On the palate, Badiòla is masterfully balanced, almost weightless. The very well integrated tannin makes it seem supple from the first to the last glass and impresses with a long finish - its elegance is magnificent! SUPERIORE.DE
"Fruity-spicy on the nose; pithy in the mouth, perfect tannin-acid balance, finishes long on red berry notes. Still needs to mature." Vinum
"Brightening, medium dense ruby. Shows fine notes of strawberry, raspberry and rose petals on the nose, some sour cherry. Fine-meshed tannin, nicely brought out fruit, a little brittle on the back end." Falstaff
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Badiòla is a bit tight and austere in this vintage. Then again that is the site. Crushed rocks, mint, white flowers and red-toned fruit open over time, but only with great reluctance. The Badiòla is an intriguing wine, to be sure, but it is not especially forthcoming today. Patience is of the essence, as this taut Gran Selezione is going to need at least a few years to unwind." Vinous
"Super elegant nose with red fruits, rose petals, violets, toasted almonds, blood oranges and fresh herbs. Bold palate with full body." Decanter
"Sweet berries on the nose with citrus and cedar undertones. Hints of dried flowers, too. Full-bodied with a tight palate and polished tannins. The wine shows plenty of fruit, cream and cedar undertones. Chewy yet friendly finish." James Suckling
"The Mazzei 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Fonterutoli Badiòla offers an extra layer of intensity that is delivered over a medium-rich concentration. With fruit sourced from one of the Mazzei family's historic vineyards, this distinctive wine stands apart in the portfolio thanks to its bright cherry and berry aromas as well as the subtle spice, tar and smoke that fill in the back so seamlessly. This wine should easily hold until the 20-year mark." Wine Advocate
"A true wine gem from the municipality of Radda in Chianti, from Romanesque 'Pieve' of Badiòla. Three Sangiovese biotypes, three from mass selection, the nose is thick and intense, wild berries, hints of marjoram, eucalyptus and peony on the finish. The mouthfeel is taut and compact, with savoury tannins. Dark small fruits reappearing in the aftertaste." Luca Gardini

“Roncicone” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC
As a result of extensive soil research, Francesco Ricasoli was able to identify three microlocations, which will be vinified separately from the 2015 vintage onwards. The range of Chianti Classico Gran Selezione now includes, in addition to the famous Castello di Brolio, three cru sites (Colledilà, Roncicone and Ceniprimo), all of which are 100% planted with Sangiovese. They differ in structure and taste in close correspondence with their terroir and impressively demonstrate the complexity of the Chanti Classico region.
Cru Roncicone comes from soils with maritime deposits. It is a 10.1 hectare plot planted between 1998 and 2000 at a density of 6,000 plants per hectare. The soils are rich in marine fossils with sand at the top and thicker clay under the topsoil. Our impression of this wine is that it is the most immediately and softly structured.
Deep dark, fruity-smoky bouquet. On the palate then dark, violet fruits, paired with notes of forest floor, tobacco and a nice spiciness. The volume is full and deep, the tannins very accessible even at a young age and the finish is flanked by a well-structured acidity framework, which will also ensure a very good ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Comes from river alluvial soils at 320 metres above sea level: multi-faceted bouquet with subtle mineral notes, lots of polish and yet also character; compact texture, tannins and acidity well balanced, elegant and youthful finish. Can mature." Vinum
"Shiny ruby-garnet. Finely marked nose with notes of raspberry, some strawberry, underlaid with fine spices in the background, multilayered. Intense fresh fruit on the palate, unfolds with polished tannin in many layers, long and deep, slightly smoky notes on the final." Falstaff
"Linear and compact, offering a core of cherry and strawberry singed by iron, tobacco and oak spice flavors. There's intensity to this, combined with a firm structure and balanced in a tightly wound package, showing excellent length." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Roncicone emerges from a parcel on marine soils that naturally yield a bright, taut expression of Sangiovese. Sweet red berry fruit, flowers, chalk, mint and blood orange bring out the more lifted, red-toned expression of Sangiovese. The Roncicone is another very pretty wine in this range from Brolio." Vinous
"Aromas of minerals, crushed stones and cherries. Pine needles, too. Floral. Full-to medium-bodied with a tight, linear palate and super fine tannins. Extremely deep. Fresh. Light saltiness. Give this three or four years to open." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
Mastrojanni's Brunello 2017 stands out for its intensity, finesse and balance. Bright, lively fruit tones, piquant spice and taut tannins give an excellent overall impression. In addition to firm pressure on the palate, it already has a suppleness and freshness that make it one of the best examples of the 2017 vintage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Even though the Annata is quite appealing, the difference to the single-vineyard wine becomes apparent in such a year. On the nose, forest fruits and spicy-earthy notes, new leather and forest floor. On the palate with lively, rather red fruit, enormously grippy and gripping." Weinwisser
"Quite deep, somewhat tobacco, dried floral and a hint of smokiness with fine black and red berry aromas, nutty wood spice, tar, cocoa, herbs and juniper. Tight, tart, juicy, youthful fruit with a noticeable acid bite and very present, yet fine tannins, dense, deep and persistent on the palate, for all its power it also has freshness and a certain coolness, still completely undeveloped, good depth, chalky, salty minerality, a hint of coffee and juniper, dry herb notes, multi-layered, very good to long, firm, tart-juicy finish with bite and a hint of kirsch. A beauty." Wein-Plus
"This has depth to its aromas and flavors of black cherry, blackberry, black currant, iron, spice and tobacco. Though vibrant, it also has a layer of firm tannins that provide grip and structure. Features a fine aftertaste of iron, sanguine and tobacco elements." Wine Spectator
"The cellar with the seal in wax, established in 1975, in a juicy and fresh version of his workhorse. Red plum on the nose, with touches of caper fruit and flower, gardenia, then hints of white pepper in the closing. The mouthfeel has sapid tannins and a finish of persistence" Luca Gardini
"Mastrojanni has created my all-time favorite Brunello packaging. A simple white label is embellished with an individually applied red wax seal. The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is just as beautiful on the inside. This ample 65,000-bottle release absolutely defies the vintage expectations. There's so much vibrant fruit here and freshness. The wine is textured and firm with plenty of creamy weight to soften it out. This is a phenomenal interpretation of the 2017 growing season." Wine Advocate
"Delicious and elegantly structured, this gorgeous red offers enticing scents of fragrant blue flowers, forest floor, wild berries and new leather. On the full-bodied palate, taut, fine-grained tannins provide finesse and a polished framework for ripe Morello cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice and the barest hint of mocha." Wine Enthusiast

Barbaresco “Vanotu” DOCG 2016 · MAGNUM in OWC
Vanotu is Pelissero's top growth and very convincing every year. Attractive garnet red, concentrated, hearty bouquet with fine notes of tobacco and leather. Generous on the palate too, of overripe sour cherries and with tightly woven tannins. A spectacular and masculine wine with great storage potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intense bright ruby red with a fine garnet rim. Very present and dense nose, shows a lot of intense fruit, blackberry, dark cherry and plum, truffle in the background. Dense and powerful on the palate, spreads out well, in the back the wood is clearly visible, drying tannin. Falstaff
"The flagship 2016 Barbaresco Vanotu is dense, plush and explosive. Black cherry, chocolate, licorice, spice, leather, menthol and dried flowers all run through this rich, sumptuous Barbaresco. Even with all of its obvious richness and muscle, the 2016 retains a good bit of freshness. Readers need to give the 2016 time to settle down post bottling." Vinous
"A supple, elegant style, this offers cherry, floral, iron, tar, toasty and spice aromas and flavors. Fleshy midpalate, this stands up to the tannins that emerge on the finish. Best from 2023 through 2042." Wine Spectator

“Terra di Lavoro” Rosso Campania IGP 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
The 2017 Campania wine year can justifiably be called an exceptional vintage. More than 20 years after the debut vintage, here comes a wine into the glass that once again exceeds the results of the years before and sets lasting accents with its complexity and richness. Intense, impenetrable ruby red. The nose, as usual, intense, complex and persistent. And yet it is different, as it is surprisingly joined by exciting notes of red geranium and rose petals and other exotic flowers. The olfactory concert is rounded off by balsamic notes of wild mint, white smoke and a subtle spice blend of black pepper and small red berries. The nose then explodes any horizons, as not only do the notes from the bouquet return here, but they are flanked warmly, complexly and persistently by leather, coffee powder, liquorice and graphite. Terra di Lavoro 2017 makes you forget the world for a short while, although this masterpiece is a child of this very universe ... SUPERIORE.DE
"Noble, dark ruby with garnet. Rich nose of ripe wild berries and lush raspberries, a hint of blackberry, noble spicy note in the reverberation of cinnamon and cloves. Pithy and saline on the palate, elegantly spans the tongue with ripe fruit embedded in pithy tannin, elegant finish." Falstaff
"Creamy and well-knit, this understated, medium- to full-bodied red slowly expands on the palate, revealing pure notes of black currant and star anise, with a tarry underpinning and accents of lavender and bay leaf, graphite and ground black pepper. Sculpted tannins emerge on the harmonious finish." Wine Spectator
"An Italian icon, the Galardi 2017 Terra di Lavoro draws its fruit from 400 meters in altitude, where nighttime temperatures are cool. This makes all the difference in a hot vintage such as 2017. The wine is very nice in appearance and intensity, with lots of dark, savory fruit, tobacco and spice. You will also find some scorched earth in there if you dig a bit." Wine Advocate
"The hot 2017 vintage was interpreted in an outstanding way, with a fruity nose full of Mediterranean herbs, plus crunchy fruits on the palate. Firm yet ripe tannins and refreshing acidity give great balance to the dense, velvety fruit, with a cioccolato di Modica finish. Delicious to drink now, with potential for the long haul." Decanter
"Inky ruby. The very ripe nose hints at red cherry jam, oaky spices, tamarind paste, duck sauce and confit tomatoes, but a welcome note of lively violet perfume adds lift. Sweet and ripe in the mouth too, but also very nuanced, offering downright subtle flavors of raspberry, plum sauce, sweet spices and Oriental herbs. Finishes very long and seamless. A marvelous effort that tastes much less over-the-top than the nose suggests." Vinous
"There's a unique floral and herbal edge to this, in the form of peppercorns, aniseed, licorice and five spice; wait for this to open up in the glass (decanting suggested), and along comes a cohort of dark fruit in the form of dark plums, mulberries and blackcurrants. Dense and flavorful, yet wild and pretty tannins envelop the mouth, coating layers of dark fruit and painting them in colorful hues. It's full-bodied and full-throttle, but its beauty is understated and the acidity and fruit are playful and subtle." James Suckling

Barolo Ravera DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
Barolo Ravera comes from a single vineyard with almost 50-year-old vines. In the glass, it impresses with a strong, aromatic opening aroma. Bright, precise and finely chiselled, the Ravera captures all the goodness the vintage has to offer. Cherry, sweet mint, candy and expressive floral notes get an extra kick of inner sweetness from the Ravera's natural energy. There is so much to look forward to as the wine develops over the next few years! SUPERIORE.DE
"Mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Glorious nose of perfumed, intensely lifted cherry. Hints of black pepper and minerally stony notes. Compact, embryonic and concentrated fruit on the palate with bags of powdery tannins and succulent acidity. Great balance and length. Lots of potential." Jancis Robinson
"The 2017 Barolo Ravera is a beautiful, precise wine. Bright acids and veins of tannin give the 2017 terrific energy that carries all the way through to the finish. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, chalk, white pepper and spice all open with a bit of coaxing. This is very nicely done." Vinous
"A tightly wound, linear red, this reveals steeped cherry and plum flavors, with shadings of tar, eucalyptus and licorice. The dense matrix of tannins rules the finish, yet this shows nice equilibrium overall." Wine Spectator
"Cherry and candied strawberry with flowers and some dried earth. Full-bodied, layered and chewy. Lots of wet earth and mushroom to the red fruit." James Suckling
"The Ravera cru is seeing renewed energy and interest, thanks to the hard work of the Elvio Cogno team. They believed in Novello from the very beginning, and today a wine like the 2017 Barolo Ravera shows special confidence and pride. This pretty Barolo made with a blend of Nebbiolo clones (Lampia and Michet) reveals a slow succession of aromas with dark cherry and blackberry. The results are lasting, contoured and beautifully focused, thanks to mineral notes of rusty iron or brick. Nuanced notes of licorice and campfire ash round off the finish." Wine Advocate
"Made by the estate that put this celebrated cru on the map, and showing an enviable combination of elegance and power, this stunning wine opens with aromas of wild berries, underbrush, dark spice and balsamic notes of cedar and new leather. The tense, savory palate is loaded with youthful energy, showing succulent Marasca cherry, raspberry, cinnamon and star anise framed in tightly knit, refined tannins and surprisingly bright acidity for the vintage. A mineral note suggesting iron adds depth to the close." Wine Enthusiast

“Vigna Dominin” Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso Friuli Colli Orientali DOC 2013 · MAGNUM in gift box
Great wine that can boast enormous depth and intensity. Velvety and rich, the aromas recall dried berries, roasted oak and fine chocolate, on the palate of breathtaking power and fullness, the pure tension and beauty of Refosco. SUPERIORE.DE
"As well as the forest-berry aromas, there’s a hint of herb liqueur on the nose. The depth is certainly impressive and the acidity of this grape seems nicely balanced by some gentle tannins that time has polished. Good length." James Suckling
"The 2013 Refosco Vigna Dominin is a beautiful wine. Meroi has succeeded in taming most of the rusticity out of this notoriously rustic Friulian grape. In exchange, though, the wine is a bit less varietally expressive than it has been in the past. Still, taken on its own terms, the 2013 is a gorgeous Friulian red to drink over the next decade, give or take. Stylistically, the 2013 is a bit less pushed and concentrated than other recent editions. Sweet red cherry, French oak, spice and wild flowers are nicely pushed forward in this succulent, expressive red from Friuli's Colli Oriental district." Antonio Galloni

Barolo “Via Nuova” DOCG 2017 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
The grapes for Chiara Boschis' Via Nuova come from selected sites in the three districts of Commune di Barolo, Monforte d'Alba and Serralunga d'Alba. Delicate, slightly minty bouquet of medicinal herbs, wild berries and wild cherry. Powerful on the palate, with a lot of structure and elegance. A very impressive Barolo, which perfectly performs the balancing act between tradition and modernity. SUPERIORE.DE
"Radiant, sparkling ruby red. In the nose with a clear barrel note, light spicy tones, ripe strawberries, raspberries, in the reverberation also slightly of dried flowers. Clear and radiant on the palate, opens on pithy, grippy tannin, slightly consuming in the finish." Falstaff
"This classic wine represents a traditional blend of sites including Barolo (Terlo and Liste), Monforte d'Alba (Ravera and Mosconi) and Serralunga d'Alba (Gabutti and Baudana). The organic E Pira-Chiara Boschis 2017 Barolo Via Nuova reveals ripe cherry and raspberry that greet you with a bright, fruit-forward bouquet. I feel the hot-vintage fruit ripeness more in this release than I did in the smaller releases of Mosconi or Cannubi. The wine is slender and elegant in terms of mouthfeel, with a good, polished feel and some subtle bite from the tannins on the close. There are some grassy notes and a spicy point of crushed black pepper as well." Wine Advocate
"An expressive nose of rose, cherry, strawberry and eucalyptus doubles down on the palate, while the dense structure lends support. This red is balanced and long, with excellent intensity and freshness." Wine Spectator
"The 2017 Barolo Via Nuova is stellar. In 2017, the Via Nuova is a bit nervous, the sign of a Barolo that is going to need a number of years to unwind. Bright red-toned fruit, chalk, crushed rocks, mint and white pepper add pretty aromatic top notes. As always, the Via Nuova is the most taut Barolo in the range." Vinous
"Gorgeous aromas of dried flowers and strawberries with some cherries and hints of iron. Full-bodied. Chewy and creamy-textured at the same time. Attractive berry and walnut aftertaste." James Suckling

“Sapaio” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
Massimo Piccin lives the dream of giving new expression to Bordeaux grapes from Bolgheri and producing wines that combine power, elegance and longevity. And so the Sapaio magnificently offers its full, vital and tannin-rich style and takes a lot of time for the finish. Once again, part of the grapes come from Bibbona, i.e. outside the Bolgheri DOC, so that this great wine is only allowed to bear the label Toscana IGT. Truly no reason to mope ...
Beautiful, animating bouquet of blackcurrants, blueberries, lavender and a delicate hint of chocolate. Firm, full-bodied, multi-layered on the palate with an attractive extract sweetness, finely woven but definitely present tannin and a resting, seamless substance that leaves nothing to be desired until the long and tasty finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Polished aromas of blueberries, mulberries, baking spice, sandalwood and rosemary. It’s full-bodied with tight, chewy tannins. Structured and layered with a fleshy texture. Try from 2023." James Suckling
"The 2018 Sapaio is distinguished by a lovely dark garnet-toned appearance that is deep and thickly concentrated but not without its shimmer and shine. Massimo Piccin shows a deft hand in a vintage that was not easy along the Tuscan coast. This wine is especially bright and focused in terms of its aromas, with black fruit, plum and ripe blackberry. Hints of spice and pipe tobacco add vertical lift and softness. The finish is leaner than we've seen in the past, but that 2018 austerity suits this wine well." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino “Le Lucére” DOCG 2012 · MAGNUM in OWC
Dark ruby with garnet-coloured inclusions. Beautiful dark fruit, plus plum, spice and tobacco. Le Lucere has a subtle oak flavour and the power and persistence of the Sangiovese grape. It is already a worthy representative of its appellation at a young age and will become even more elegant over the years. SUPERIORE.DE
"Aromas of red forest fruits, cloves and leather; clear texture, the tannins polished, in balance with the acidity, persistent fruity finish, combines elegance with character." Vinum
"A dense red wine with many flavours of cherry, plum, spices and eucalyptus. A broad spectrum of tannins and a juicy acidity carry the long finish, but you have to be patient until all facets come to light. Shows outstanding potential." Wine Spectator
"Wow, this is really fantastic, with outstanding depth of fruit and ripe, silky tannins. So much blueberry and cedar character with a hint of flowers. Full body, fine tannins and a fresh and clean finish. This wine has a wonderful balance." James Suckling
"This is a great wine from San Filippo. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino le Lucére is plush and rich in all the right places. It opens to a generous bouquet with tones of dark fruit and spice that contrast beautifully. The wine moves between primary flavours (directly from the fruit) and secondary flavours (from oak ageing). The effect is well balanced and the intensity of the wine appears brighter and more harmonious. The mouthfeel is compact and firm. The wine shows good persistence on the finish." Wine Advocate

Barbaresco “Masseria” DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
First bottled back in 1967, this Masseria comes from a vineyard in Bricco di Neive and is essentially vinified and aged like a Barolo. On the nose, impressive depth and intensity with bright red cherry, cranberry, chalk and floral notes. The palate is then full of aromatic complexity and power without ever losing its Vietti-typical shine. SUPERIORE.DE
"A release of 5,193 bottles, the Vietti 2017 Barbaresco Masseria opens to a spicy bouquet with a subtle point of white pepper or dried ginger that hovers over the bouquet, albeit briefly. At its core, the wine shows bright berry notes and some plum, although the wine's concentration remains finely etched and elegantly streamlined, overall." Wine Advocate
"So much fruit here with dried-strawberry, floral and citrus aromas. Full-bodied with very integrated tannins that are polished and dusty, yet chewy and fine. Dry earth and berry at the end. Becomes shy and reserved. Let it open." James Suckling
"The 2017 Barbaresco Masseria is a dark, luscious wine that very clearly captures the best the vintage has to offer. Deep and beguiling, but with relatively soft contours, Vietti's 2017 shows the more virile side of Barbaresco in its distinctly Barolo-leaning structure. Black cherry, plum, lavender, menthol, spice and licorice saturate the palate. I have said it before, but it bears repeating, the Masseria is the most under the radar wine at Vietti today." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino “Montosoli” DOCG 2016 · MAGNUM in gift box
Montosoli lovers will be anything but disappointed by the archetype of the 2016 vintage. In this exceptional year, this special single vineyard shows a beautifully fragrant and floral bouquet that exactly meets the expectations of connoisseurs. Thus, for us, this edition represents the ideal interpretation of grape variety and terroir like hardly any other. The Sangiovese grape sounds bright and audible here from the glass - with nuances of small berries and floral impressions of rose, violet and lavender. In the drink, its complexity and multi-layeredness is rounded off by subtle notes of anise, cola and liquorice sticks. This fabulous wine, which is already inspiring, is always balancingly soft and silky and will - even if one hardly thinks it possible - gain in refinement and expression after a few more years of ageing! SUPERIORE.DE
"Seductive raspberry-scented wine with juice and polish; pithy on the palate, acidity well integrated, tight yet noticeable tannins, pleases with its polish, demonstrates finesse through to the final. With a hearty bistecca." Vinum
"Lustrous ruby. Concentrated cherry nose with an earthy, minerally note and a hint of gingerbread. With aeration more and more minerally. Tangy gentle fruit with the merest suggestion of oak. Gorgeous chewy tannins. Very suave, supple and elegant." Jancis Robinson
"Altesino has been producing a separate bottling from the cru of Montosoli since 1975, though the vines were partially replanted in 2005 and 2016. If Altesino's estate Brunello is almost accessible already, the polished yet intense Montosoli needs time in the cellar to demonstrate its potential. The nose is discreet with violet, bramble and bay leaf taking on earthy, savoury tones as it sits in the glass. Tight and firmly fastened, the palate fuses stony notes of granite with dark cherry. Ageing is in 30hL casks of Slavonian oak." Decanter
"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli pulls you close to the glass with a captivating display of candied citrus rinds, incense and dried roses giving way to rich cherry sauce and a hint of brown spice. It's deeply textural yet youthfully dense, as it first cools the palate with lavender and ripe dark red fruits; yet beneath is a layer of grippy tannins that close the wine down. Notes of licorice, black tea and purple florals linger on the youthfully chewy finale. The 2016 is just a baby today, and it will need a number of years to come fully into focus - but it will be worth the wait." Vinous
"The Altesino 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli is a true beauty. The wine reveals dark fruit intensity that comes forth as blackberry, plum and summer cherry. In no time, those aromas shift to the savory side of the spectrum with smoke, tar and tobacco. The results are generous and layered, offering the best of what the celebrated Montosoli cru can offer, especially in an ironic vintage such as this." Wine Advocate
"Lovely sweet cherries and heather with some leather and balsamic undertones. It's full-bodied with a velvety and lightly dusty palate. Juicy fruit and pretty orange peel to the berry character. Hints of cedar and meat at the end. Subtle and complex." James Suckling
"Rose, forest berry, underbrush and new leather are some of the aromas you'll find on this full-bodied red. From one of Montalcino's greatest vineyard sites, the firmly structured, elegant palate is also delicious, boasting ripe black cherry, raspberry compote, tobacco and licorice set against taut, fine-grained tannins. It's well balanced, with bright acidity." Wine Enthusiast
"Packed with sweet, ripe cherry, plum and raspberry fruit and framed by loamy earth and woodsy notes, this red is intense, lively and light on its feet. Balanced, with firm tannins and a salty, minerally impression on the lingering aftertaste." Wine Spectator

“Titolo” Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Riserva DOCG 2013 · MAGNUM in OWC
Here comes the first vintage of the new Titolo Riserva, which will be bottled exclusively in 400 numbered magnum bottles and will thus hardly appear in the trade. A highly complex red with the scent of dried flowers, blackberry and crushed rock. The tannins are excellently integrated and this wine is already not only a coveted rarity, but a new star in the firmament of southern Italian wines. SUPERIORE.DE
"From magnum. Lustrous mid ruby. Cherry-laced palate with savoury, exotic, spice notes and liquorice. Gorgeous freshness and bite and length. Wonderful vibrant stuff." Jancis Robinson
"The 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo Riserva takes things to a whole new level for Elena Fucci. It opens with an intense display of crushed cherry, exotic spices and sweet herbal tones; as the bouquet evolves, it gains haunting richness and a darker fruit profile with marine-tinged minerality and notes of lavender. Its silky textures coast along a medium-bodied framework, as a polished yet dense display of blackberry and currant gives way to saturating spice and a tightly wound web of tannin. This finishes long, intense and structured, leaving the palate drenched in black fruit concentrate, yet all lifted by residual acids. A stunning example of Aglianico and Vulture terroir." Vinous
"Here's a new discovery that I'd like to broadcast far and near. This Riserva is a new wine from Elena Fucci that was initiated with this vintage. It is a limited-edition wine made only in magnums. In fact, I tasted bottle number 1 of 400 made to write this review. The 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Riserva Titolo is a dark and savory expression with an evolved and profound bouquet that covers all the bases. It offers dried fruit and blackberry with smoke, ash and crushed river stone. That mineral identity is the wine's most important defining characteristic. Aglianico tends to deliver astringent tannins, but this Riserva shows excellent integration and structural management. A new benchmark wine for southern Italy has just been created." Wine Advocate

Barolo Ravera DOCG 2015
Viettis Ravera is one of the great stars of Piedmont in its precision and structure. Rose petals, chalk, pepper and a hint of pomegranate make this Barolo one of the most sought-after appellations every year. With a little storage maturity, the strong tannins give way to an elegant appearance that does not deviate one millimetre from the coveted style of this large site. A monument to Barolo, which apart from Vietti and Giacosa, only a few other Piedmontese winegrowers bring into the bottle with such consistency! SUPERIORE.DE
"This red is full of sweet ripe plum, cherry and tar flavors, accented by tobacco and underbrush notes. Thick, dusty tannins coat the gums and put a clamp on the finish for now, but this shows potential." Wine Spectator
"The beautifully fragrant roses are impossible to resist. This oozes charm. Also, there are red cherries, cocoa powder and an array of wild herbs in the mix. The palate has toned yet muscular tannins that build nicely to deliver a concentrated core of ripe red-cherry flavor that holds long, fresh and youthful. Great Barolo." James Suckling
"The 2015 Barolo Ravera is once again the head of the class at Vietti. Bright, sculpted and wonderfully nuanced, the Ravera is very pretty. Floral aromatics and the pointed, brilliant fruit that is such a Ravera signature are very much in evidence. Hints of blood orange, mint, crushed rocks and flowers add shades of complexity as the 2015 gradually opens up in the glass. This is one of the finer wines of the year. Don't miss it!" Vinous
"Starting off a bit shy and closed at first, the 2015 Barolo Ravera showed noticeably better in the sample that had been opened a few hours prior to my arrival at the winery for my annual visit. This makes perfect sense as Vietti’s wines are intentionally slow at first but are built to endure the long haul. From the Novello township, this vineyard site is recognized for it power, structure and the uniquely broad approach it shows to the palate. There is a larger span of black fruit at its core. The positioning of the Ravera cru means it is open to the elements and the cold air from the Alps, and the wines result in freshness and mineral character as well. Luca Currado describes a salty, anchovy-like aroma that does indeed appear. Otherwise, this wine shows tightly polished and glossy tannins." Wine Advocate

Barolo Rocche di Castiglione DOCG 2015
Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is probably the richest wine in Viettis vintage range. It is a monument based on performance, intensity and power. At the same time, Rocche is incredibly precise and multi-layered every year. It is precisely this interplay of fullness and finesse that makes the Rocche so tempting. Rose petals, mint and sweet red berries form a crescendo of aromas and textures that appeals to all the senses. In the almost endless reverberation, everything comes into harmony again as if by magic and leaves behind a Nebbiolo experience of the third kind. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2015 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is incredibly inviting from the very first taste. Silky and aromatic, the Rocche shows plenty of the classiness that is such a signature of this Castiglione Falletto site. As with all of these 2015s, readers will have to be patient. The 2015 gains striking volume and resonance with time in the glass, but a few years in bottle are an absolute must for the wine to show at its very best." Vinous
"A rich, almost opulent style, this Barolo delivers cherry, raspberry, plum and eucalyptus flavors on a base of stiff tannins. Turns vibrant and chewy, with a solid, minerally finish." Wine Spectator
"Along with the Ravera, the 2015 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione has a very fresh feeling (they are both grown with less direct sunlight). Indeed, there are many similarities between these two prestigious Barolos from Vietti, but the differences start with the vinification methods. While the Ravera sees malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, the Rocche di Castiglione completes that phase in botte. To continue the comparison, these two wines are certainly more closed than the other Barolo crus from this producer, the Lazzarito and the Brunate, which blossom and open more quickly. Even though it is a bit shy, the defining characteristics of herbaceous rosemary and balsamic notes show up well in this vintage of the Rocche di Castiglione, a vineyard site that prizes elegance above all else." Wine Advocate
"A hauntingly complex and finely detailed nose that touches so many different characters. Roses, dried wood, cedar, fine brown spices, light earthy notes, warm stones, mountain herbs and leaves. All here – very complex. The density and weight is exceptional, as is the fine, firm weave of tannins. The length is staggering and the tautness and balance are captivating. One of the stars of the vintage!" James Suckling

“Saffredi” Rosso Toscana IGT 2020 · MAGNUM in OWC
Deep, dark ruby red colour. Floral nose with lots of red, warm fruit and delicate herbal notes. Smooth and elegant on the palate with wonderful depth and complexity with notes of black cherry, herbs, violets, plums and a hint of tar and leather. Saffredi literally sneaks up on you until it fades into a very long and harmonious finish with an impressive presence and finesse. One of Italy's great wines, full of elegance! SUPERIORE.DE
"Still slightly closed. Very multi-faceted on the nose, despite the hot and dry vintage with cool accents, balsamic and herbal-spicy notes, liquorice and pencil lead, certain Bordeaux allure. Quite linear on the palate with a juicy, intense attack, still very youthful fruit, healthy, polished tannin structure, finely arranged and detailed, this will be another great Saffredi." Weinwisser
"Well structured and linear, this red frames a core of black currant and black cherry fruit with accents of toasty oak, sweet spices, tobacco and iron. Refined and harmonious, with the stuffing to develop over the next decade." Wine Spectator
"The 2020 Saffredi shows a very ripe and rich interpretation of this iconic wine made by Elisabetta Geppetti and her family. The blend of fruit is the same, but 2020 actually has less oak use to allow the dark fruit to shine through. You'll find blackberries, fragrant roses, dried apricots, spices and sweet cinnamon. All in all, the wine offers immediate fruit and a vertical delivery of flavours." Wine Advocate
"A rich, juicy nose presents a handful of cherries and mulberries, along with slices of passion fruit, but a fresh spice keeps the sweetness in check. On the palate, dark chocolate adds depth to the wine, while tannins and acidity attack in tandem. Bold and confident - a precise wine." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2020 Saffredi is compelling. Deep yet quite structured, the 2020 is unlike any other Saffredi I can recall tasting because of its balance of intense dark fruit and vertical structure. Plum, blackberry, pencil shavings, lavender and spice saturate the palate." Vinous
"Grand Cru from the coast made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Multi-faceted, dynamic nose with notes of blackcurrant, undergrowth, rosemary and liquorice; full-bodied structure with perfectly structured, tightly woven tannins, balanced by plenty of freshness, also mineral salinity, long and full of esprit." Vinum
"Impressive aromas of fresh herbs from the Tuscan coast, such as sage, mint, rosemary and thyme. Also blackcurrants. Full-bodied with fine, chewy tannins that have lovely length and texture. Racy and beautiful, with plenty of subtle and refined character. There is a little more Cabernet Sauvignon in this year, which adds class to the wine. Give this wine about three or four years of bottle age." James Suckling
"Bright ruby red colour. Initially a nose of freshly baked black bread, cranberries, fine earthy notes, a hint of dark chocolate, fragrant precious wood in the aftertaste. Juicy, clear, radiant, present on the palate, with tightly woven tannins, comes back continuously juicy, great length!" Falstaff

“Bruno di Rocca” Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana IGT 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
Bruno is the second top wine from Vecchie Terre di Montefili and an almost single-varietal Cabernet that impressively underlines its Tuscan origins in a rich garnet red. Restrained on the nose, it initially only gently reveals dark berries and light spicy tones. Then we discover herbal accents, blackberry, crushed rock and liquorice, which reveal more of its Tuscan identity with every sip. Voluminous and fresh on the velvety palate, the acidity and tannin still crisp when young, with good tension and mineral-salty components as it progresses, underlining its complexity and making this sophisticated drinking pleasure unforgettable. Be sure to aerate! SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich, deep dark ruby with violet glints. Opens with notes of cedar and pencil, then dark berry fruit, some dark chocolate. Emphasises fresh, crisp fruit, lots of juicy dark currant, grippy tannin that builds nicely towards the finish." Falstaff
"A firm, linear red, offering black cherry, black currant, wild rosemary and earth flavors, fused to a base of chalky tannins that leave a dusty sensation on the finish. High-strung and focused, this needs time." Wine Spectator
"The 2017 Bruno di Rocca, 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Sangiovese, is more accurately described as a wine of the property, first and foremost. Cabernet is felt in strong, savory and earthy accents in the aromatics, but there is plenty of Sangiovese energy too. Blackberry jam, gravel, spice, menthol and licorice take on a very distinctive Tuscan personality. The tannins could use time to soften. This is impressive, to say the least." Vinous
