![Falanghina del Sannio DOC 2025]()
Falanghina del Sannio DOC 2025
Falanghina is one of the great white wine classics of southern Italy – and Feudi di San Gregorio interprets it in its purest form. The grapes come from the gentle hills of the Sannio, a high altitude area with calcareous soils and striking day-night differences. Brilliant straw yellow in the glass with greenish reflections. Aromas of white peach, apple blossom, lime and a hint of broom. Fresh, fruity and delicately flavoured on the palate, the minerality remains subtly in the background. A confident, clear white wine from a traditional grape variety that does not want to be fashionable, but speaks its origins. Ideal with seafood, pasta with vegetables or simply as an aperitif on a warm evening. SUPERIORE.DE

“Svelato” Falanghina del Sannio DOP 2025
Svelato means unveiled – the veil pulled away. The name of the most famous Falanghina from the Sannio resonates with the legend: Guardia Sanframondi, the "bewitched land" on the Matese mountains, home of the witches of Benevento and, since 1898, of the Iacobucci family. Filomena and Carlo rebuilt the business in 2004 – and the Svelato quickly became an ambassador. Hand-picked, whole bunch pressing, ageing in steel on the fine lees.

A youthful classic with history: Collecastrese is a single-varietal Falanghina from the wine-growing region around Monte Massico – an old cultivation centre of the legendary Falerno wines. The limestone and tufa soils lend the wine a mineral freshness, while the proximity to the coast promotes mild ripeness and aromatic clarity. Brilliant straw yellow in the glass with a greenish-yellow hue. On the nose, ripe peach, green pear, tropical fruit notes such as pineapple and mango, accompanied by floral nuances. On the palate, it has a charming smoothness, clean fruit and fine acidity; the salty minerality characterises the long, fresh finish. An uncomplicated but expressive introduction to the world of Villa Matilde – a Falanghina with character, balance and a regional profile. SUPERIORE.DE

Falanghina Campania IGT 2022
A top-class Falanghina that is immediately and uncompromisingly inviting: juicy and aromatic, with ripe fruit and mineral freshness in fine harmony. !["Via del Campo" Falanghina Irpinia DOC 2024]()
“Via del Campo” Falanghina Irpinia DOC 2024
Falanghina is experiencing a true renaissance under Luigi Moio. What was long regarded as a "simple" regional grape variety is developing into a white wine of surprising complexity and finesse in the hands of the oenology professor. Via del Campo – named after the characteristic country lanes of Irpinia – represents Moio's vision of a modern interpretation of this indigenous variety. In the vineyards of Lapio, the Falanghina vines grow on calcareous soils with volcanic inclusions, which give the region its mineral character. The vines, which are over forty years old, have adapted perfectly to the terroir and produce concentrated grapes with a pronounced aromatic intensity. The altitude of 450 metres provides the necessary temperature fluctuations that give Falanghina its characteristic balance between strength and elegance.

Falanghina: Campania's white turn
Falanghina is one of the oldest grape varieties in southern Italy and is said to have been cultivated by the Romans. The name is probably derived from the term "falanga", the wooden stakes to which the vines were attached. For a long time, this grape variety was almost forgotten until dedicated winegrowers rediscovered it in the 1970s and helped it to flourish again. Today, Falanghina is considered one of Campania's white ambassadors and has developed from a regional speciality into a grape variety with an international reputation.
An old vine with new vigour
In the glass, Falanghina has a light, straw-yellow colour with greenish reflections. The aroma is inviting and varied: citrus notes, white peach, apple, delicate floral accents and a hint of exotic fruit. On the palate, Falanghina combines lively freshness with fine minerality, often reminiscent of the volcanic soils around Mount Vesuvius. Typical is the balance of elegance and clear structure, which enables both uncomplicated everyday wines and complex, storable interpretations.
At home in Campania
Falanghina is particularly at home in Campania, especially in the provinces of Benevento, Avellino and Caserta. Two varieties have emerged: Falanghina Beneventana, known for its freshness and acidity, and Falanghina Flegrea, which grows around the Phlegraean Fields and surprises with its salty, maritime flavour. Synonyms such as Falanchina, Fallanghina or Falangina appear in old documents, but are evidence of the same traditional grape variety.
Winegrower with a unique signature
Renowned wineries such as Feudi di San Gregorio, Mastroberardino and Quintodecimo characterise the landscape today. They show how the vine develops its strengths between tradition and modernity. While ageing in stainless steel preserves the grape variety in its clear, fresh form, trials in wooden barrels or amphorae lend additional depth. As a result, the spectrum ranges from fragrant, light summer wines to structured growths with ageing potential.
Diverse moments of pleasure
Falanghina is an excellent accompaniment to fish dishes, seafood, pasta with mussels or grilled vegetables. This grape variety is also an ideal accompaniment to buffalo mozzarella or young pecorino. It is best served chilled at 8 to 10 degrees, while more complex varieties develop their full elegance at 11 to 12 degrees. A glass of Falanghina is not only a pleasure on warm summer evenings, but is also suitable as a festive aperitif that brings Mediterranean lightness to the table.
Voice from Campania
Winemaker Luigi Moio from the Quintodecimo winery describes it aptly: "Falanghina is like a clear morning on the Gulf of Naples – fresh, bright and full of energy." This makes it clear why this grape variety is so fascinating: it combines historical depth with the vibrant vitality of its homeland. SUPERIORE.DE
