Historically, the vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli are situated in the territories of three neighbouring municipalities within the Chianti Classico region: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. With the 2017 vintage, the Mazzei family vinified all three major vineyards separately as Chianti Classico Gran Selezione for the first time, in order to reflect the diversity of the terroir: Castello di Fonterutoli, Vicoregio 36 and Badiòla.

Badiòla is the historic name of a vineyard in the municipality of Radda, whose grapes have been vinified separately as a Gran Selezione by the Mazzei family since the 2017 vintage. A brilliant ruby-garnet colour, with a restrained yet distinct nose of wild berries, blue flowers and undergrowth, complemented by hints of dark pepper. On the palate, Badiòla is masterfully balanced, almost weightless. The very well-integrated tannins ensure it remains supple from the first to the last glass and captivates with a long finish – its elegance is magnificent! SUPERIORE.DE
