A sunny high plateau at an altitude of 400 to 450 metres, gently sloping towards the south and constantly bathed in fresh air – this is the site from which Manincor's Pinot Nero originates. This airy location ensures healthy grapes and a consistent ripening period – ideal conditions for a grape variety that forgives no negligence. The vines are deeply rooted in stony moraine gravel, interlaced with dolomite, porphyry, gneiss and granite. The barren, mineral-rich soil lends the wines tension, precision and unmistakable depth. Manincor relies on small-berried, tightly clustered French clones, with deliberately low yields – yet every grape seed is packed with concentration.

2023 put Manincor to the test as a winegrower: a year full of challenges that demanded a great deal of dedication and meticulous attention to detail. A wet spring was followed by a hot, dry summer. The vines coped with both remarkably well. The golden autumn finally brought the long-awaited balance and yielded grapes of perfect ripeness. Physiological ripeness, sugar and acidity came together in ideal harmony – ripe fruit, a cool character and moderate alcohol content characterise this vintage. The yield was 37 hectolitres per hectare – small in quantity, but great in expression. Each plot is vinified individually, fermented spontaneously with the grapes' own yeasts, without any added sulphur. Following a 15% juice extraction, maceration takes place for around two weeks in open wooden vats. The cap of pomace is gently pushed down by hand just once a day to extract the very best from the berries without masking the delicacy of this Pinot Noir. The wine is then aged for sixteen months in barriques, only 20% of which are new oak, and remains on the fine lees for the entire period. Finally, the batches are blended with the utmost care.

A brilliant ruby red in the glass. On the nose, a delicately interwoven interplay of raspberry, cranberry and delicate rose petals, accompanied by a hint of liquorice. Elegant and focused on the palate: fruit-driven, precise and with a velvety flow of tannins from the tip of the tongue right through to the finish. Not opulent, but full of tension and energy.
