Pinot Noir is the most demanding grape variety in the world. It forgives nothing – no wrong soil, no climate that is too warm, no impatient hand in the cellar. It has found its place in Terlan: Since the middle of the 19th century, Pinot Noir has thrived in the medium-high sites of the Monticol zone, at 450–760 metres, on light porphyry weathered soils, where even in midsummer, downdraughts provide cooling.

Rudi Kofler has long since said the decisive sentence: "The older vineyards produce a well-structured and, above all, elegant Pinot Noir." Elegance is not a marketing term here – it is the logical consequence of the location, soil and ripening process. And the year 2021 favoured precisely this elegance: a cool spring, slow ripening, stable harvest with pronounced day-night temperature differences. Weinbau-Südtirol calls this vintage one of the best in decades – especially for Pinot Noir. Hand-picked, BSA, 12 months of ageing: half in large wooden barrels and half in barriques, one third of which is new.

Bright ruby red colour. On the nose: wild strawberries, blackberries, a hint of tobacco and flint, plus the characteristic note of white meadow mushrooms. Balanced on the palate, with mineral elegance and a long, exciting finish. SUPERIORE.DE
