In the gently rolling hills of Contessa Entellina in western Sicily, where Mediterranean winds meet calcareous clay soils, a Chardonnay with an unmistakable island character is produced year after year: La Fuga. The vines grow at medium altitudes of between 200 and 600 metres, benefiting from significant temperature differences between day and night, and develop an expressive range of aromas – a far cry from the opulent style of many international examples of the variety.

In the glass, La Fuga sparkles with a pale straw-yellow colour and greenish highlights. The bouquet is multi-faceted: white peaches, yellow melon, orange blossom and a hint of vanilla, underpinned by a mineral freshness reminiscent of damp chalk. On the palate, the wine is creamy yet firmly structured, with lively acidity, a supple texture and a balanced, slightly salty final. This is not a brash Chardonnay, but a finely articulated white wine that combines the elegance of the grape variety with the distinct character of Sicily.

La Fuga stands for a "quiet escape" – away from stereotypes, towards character and heritage. A superb accompaniment to pan-fried fish, scallops, Sicilian pasta or saffron risotto.
