Five years of patience for a moment in a glass. When Donnafugata and Dolce&Gabbana decided to crown their Sicilian congeniality with a sparkling wine in 2019, they knew that a Metodo Classico of this calibre needed time. The grapes – exclusively Nerello Mascalese from the slopes of Mount Etna – were harvested in the autumn, when nobody could have guessed how long the journey would take. 36 months on the lees, another two years of waiting. Release in spring 2025.

What shimmers in the glass now bears the colour of old Sicilian frescoes: pink antico with golden reflections reminiscent of the molten lava that formed this soil. Bread crust and citrus emerge, followed by blackcurrant and a hint of spice. On the palate, that unmistakable volcanic minerality that no other terroir delivers like this – precise, vibrant, with impressive length. The hand-applied label in a liquid gold look? Yes, that is pure Dolce&Gabbana. But behind the glamorous appearance lies serious craftsmanship: Antonio Rallo and his team have created a rosé sparkling wine that puts Sicily on a par with Champagne – with its own accent.
