Originating from a single parcel in Dogliani, facing south-west and grown on a chalky-clay medium soil, Quass Pecchenino is a concentrated Barbera signature characterised by its terroir. The vines are over 35 years old, trained in Guyot with around 5,000 vines/ha – a classic Dogliani setting that combines density, freshness and a distinctive mineral line. The first release in 1994 also makes Quass a piece of house history.

2021 brought a long, balanced ripening period with warm days and cool nights in the Langhe; the grapes were selectively harvested by hand at the end of September. After gentle pressing, the must fermented in stainless steel with regular remontages and subsequent post-fermentation maceration; malolactic fermentation also took place in tanks before the wine was transferred to oak for ageing – the wine was deliberately dosed to provide structure and preserve the pure Barbera fruit unadorned.

Ruby red in the glass with a lively centre. Red and dark cherries on the nose, along with flint/graphite, violets and subtle spice nuances. Taut yet juicy on the palate, with lively acidity, densely woven fruit and a salty minerality that supports the length. The ageing gives the wine contour without weighing it down; the finish is long, clear and precise. A Langhe-Barbera with a strong character that combines Dogliani's seriousness with Pecchenino's fine hand – already impressive, with beautiful development over the next few years. SUPERIORE.DE
